Quote: I’m at QX and curious what to expect of air group. They said today they need just 60% or so of the pilots we have no by years end to staff the 33 E175s. Makes me nervous about coming to Alaska via pathways. (Still a year or so from that). Is Alaska gonna stop hiring/downsize soon too?
Unlikely. We are understaffed. Horizon will be too. Don’t wait for pathways. Put apps in anywhere you might like to work.

I don’t have the most recent Alaska bid handy but wasn’t the overall pilot count going down by about 200 between now and November?

No… that’s just the comparison between the total pilots on the seniority list today vs how many will be on the base position lists for bidding purposes.

My gut tells me that QX will be 50% smaller than it is today one year from now. I think the Q400 will indeed go away by years end and the company will shrink to just 33 small jets.
I doubt they could staff any more than that a year from now.

So I guess all the leaked pay rates before were BS. What a surprise (not really) in the era of misinformation and fake news.

Anyway, just from reading these forums it seems plenty of people (UA and at AS) are talking about being a no vote. Not impressed with pay rates and work rules (especially reserve rules). In AS case, the proposed rules.

What happened to our standard issue line of “my MEC speaks for me!”

But once the MEC speaks for me, passes the TA. Say now you vote NO. Isn’t that a direct slap in the face to the long standing line of “my MEC speaks for me.” Clearly, they didn’t if you vote no.

We know you're desperate for any new deal. You just don't have to be so transparent about it.

Nah. Just wondering if you will temper down just a wee bit now that the REAL United deal has been released, instead of the fake news before. I’ve met guys who are saying a NO based on DOS of 320/hr. Not DOS+3 at 320, a no to DOS at 320. Others who are a no vote based on reserve rules.

Why you hating on me when I believe “my MEC speaks for me.”

Which means, if my MEC votes yes on a TA and then passes it to me for a vote, I’ll vote yes too. Because my MEC speaks for me. Why, do they not speak for you?

I know your being sarcastic but just I case you aren’t. My MEC speaks for me in all dealings with the company. When it comes to any vote I speak for myself.

And here I thought I still get to vote after allowing my mec to negotiate for me/speak for me.

You're simply making up a new meaning for "my MEC speaks for me" and then using the incorrect meaning of the saying to prove something. What you're getting at I am not quite sure?

When a pilot says "my MEC speaks for me" they mean they have taken their concerns to the MEC and that if the company wants to find out what they will find acceptable for a new contract the company they can engage in a meaningful negotiation with our Union leadership. The saying is effectively letting management know that they should put forward a sincere effort to negotiate with our Union. Not whatever it is you are getting at.

Back on topic: prospective new hires should be aware that 25 captains have been displaced to FO by a rather disorganized and not very thoughtful Airbus base closure. In addition more captains who have recently been awarded captain have been bumped back to FO. Many have not even had the opportunity to go through Captain training.

There have been a lot of FO vacancies created by the latest bid. This isn't meaningful growth it's mostly to replace junior pilots who have left for greener pastures. Prospective new hires should give a lot of thought to the seniority issues at potential employers. With so many choices available it is important to move up the list quickly. Both for career progression and protection from furlough during increasingly uncertain economic times.
