This place ain’t perfect, and reserve blows a$$ 10 ways to Sunday around here. The 5, 6, or 7 day trips, all hand built with zero regard to fatigue mitigation, and whatever can be imagineered with Open Time trips by the minions stuck between the rock and a hard place at Angle lake. So unless you’re on reserve, which is short lived these days…
The difference in QOL between LH/OF and RSV blew my mind. You either ain’t been here very long or just you prefer to get off on b!tchin and complaining.
Well. Sug ma dic, the 190 hour TAFB lines held by JR lineholders are generally the short back turns. They were for some but certainly not everyone.

If you're thinking of coming to work at Alaska Airlines a short back turn is a red eye flight followed by minimum rest day sleep at a hotel. Some are better than others. I got stuck with the BOS ones. Which were awful. There is a nice Hilton at the airport but we had to drive to Chelsea which took a long time during the morning commute. The hotel wasn't great. Some liked it because you could walk to a grocery store but it was the last thing I wanted to do after a red eye. There was no way to get food at the hotel and when I pointed that out on "crew care" I was told I could purchase an item from the pantry. Which were "Hungry Man" frozen meals at 100% markup.

To each their own but I'm flying 290 hour TAFB flying lines at 5+ years seniority so I don't have to fly red eye short backs with day rest. They certainly aren't for everyone. We all are not as tough as you I guess, Sug ma dic.

So the conundrum is I have been hired both at Alaska and Kalitta. Pros about Alaska is its a very stable legacy with fun domestic flying and a good growth projection almost doubling in size, I also live 15 minutes from LAX. Pros about Kalitta is home based and flying heavies all over the world with quite an adventure with excellent pay.
Which one?

No one on here can answer that for you. If you’re 15 min from LAX, that’s where you want to stay, and you like being back home more frequently(not necessarily more overall) Alaska would be a good fit.

Alaska measures growth by seat numbers, not airplane numbers, the Airbus is leaving quicker than the Max replacements are being delivered, so we are shrinking in the short term. I’m not sure where your information comes from regarding doubling in size but that is absolutely inaccurate information. Best of luck with your choice.

That Positive Public Perception (PPP) is huge for AS, and they've been milking it to their advantage for a very long time.

what’s your end goal? Family with kids? Do you want purple or brown and already have TPIC? Kalitta is a solid place lots of people like it. The comparison however is night and day. Long international trips on heavies predominately on the back side of the clock or more what I consider normal length trips domestically that give you a little more variety. Neither airline is going anywhere. AS doesn’t have a ton of movement right now overall outside the attrition. Not much mandatory retirement action. I’m sure if you threw your app at AA they’d be interested. They’ve taken RJ FO’s with low time and no PIC. Good luck.

Got family? Planning to? Three week tours are rough in that context. That was always a non-starter for me.

Consider all future "growth" projections as notional at best until all the metal is actually sitting at the gates. That goes for all carriers BTW....
