You mean following language that’s been in the contract for over 20 years, after choosing to ignore it when they were short on pilots earlier this year? They didn’t reinstate anything. ALPA fought and pushed them to follow the contract correctly.

Yep that's basically what I said. Just making the point of how I got an extra day off.

Yep, a lot of pilots gave up that related right during that period. Why? I'm not quite sure.

From a letter of the law perspective, it seems like one is only required to tell CSS that the deadhead at the start of a trip will not be needed, not, request permission to drop it.

Shocked that with your current contract situation and lack of scope to see anyone on here inquiring about working there.

https://www.seattletimes.com/busines...ing-engineers/We got quite few A-Plan (pension) folks still on the roster around here at AS. From my understanding the annuity option doesn’t have any inflation or bankruptcy protection and taking the lump sum would give you a chance to protect your money. While sticking around could result in 20% decline in lump sum value retiring just a month later. Ouch!

I could see the top 5-10% of those close to retirement eyeing an out in November. Maybe 200 people actually going out. I doubt there is a plan to mitigate this, but it makes me wonder how this will affect things. Just over hire to fix it, right? Haha. Maybe OTZ can tell us.

Default AS Pension Dilemma

We got a lot of A-Plan folks. Tough decision to make, and it could be costly to retire even a few days later. Maybe the top 5-10% are taking a hard look, with 200 or so folks jumping ship. Makes me wonder if there is a plan to mitigate this, I doubt it haha. Maybe OTZ how this will play out?

Legacy brats and “friends of friends” get guilted into applying. The state of Alaska crowd go for it because, with the exception of Purple and Brown, it is by far the best in-state flying job. Most everyone else seems to be just passing through on their way to somewhere else. And some just get complacent and stay.

A large cluster of this group, has already departed via early retirement programs. There are still some that will be impacted, but most in that category are not all that astute, financially. This November, I think we will see a little extra attrition out of the left seat, depending on how many are hit in the forehead and actually feel it. The company is expecting an uptick in the 20-50 range…This group is dug in, their financial reasoning would only leave you walking away confused. Honestly, most have already missed the boat, they will likely ride the ship into the dirt. There are a “few” that two years ago was too early, and this year is just right. That’s a small number though, I am going with a mid 20’s number. Hoping many wake up though, life is short, but it can be really hard to admit to oneself, that you made a mistake.
