Seriously dude?? You obviously understand the culture at QX about as well as flyingvanillaice does (but I use to like Vanilla Ice)
Getting 175's doesn't mean growth...it means that they get to stay in business. (Fair enough, you may be right. But I think it would require some measure of growth to cover the entire state of Alaska. Either way, if I worked there, I would choose to stay in business rather than burn it down).
If Airgroup doesn't award the jet contract to QX they will be knowingly shutting QX down. (I think that's their long game plan if they don't get the small jets at the cost structure needed for their ROI).
The have already announced that they are getting rid of 20ish 400's regardless of the outcome of the jet award. (Yup. From every QX pilot I've talked to it's a crummy plane that won't be missed).
By cutting the current fleet in half they are knowingly or otherwise threatening to shut the doors at QX. (Yup. It's just business. If they can take a dollar out of your pocket and give it to the shareholder they will. What you gonna do about it? Burn it down and start over at a new job or bend over and take it right up the exhaust pipe. That's pretty much the options. Either way, Airgroup gets what it wants, the cheapest small jet fleet it can get, so they can in turn put more dollars in the hands of the shareholder. It's just business, don't take it personal.
That place would implode if they chose to furlough close to half the pilots. (Yup. If it comes to this, the timing would have to be well orchestrated to switch from QX to SkyWest. It would undoubtedly be a mess for months. But if the long game says extra profit in the future, they will do it).
Having moved on, I haven't seen the TA, so I can't say wether or not it's concessionary....although I would be willing to bet it is. Horizon has had, and currently still does, a jet pay scale in place before any regional in the country and now that they are being asked again to fly them, they want to take away??? *** is that. (Yup. Makes a guy want to drink. But what are they gonna do about it? Option 1 or option 2?)
Guys and gals at QX have been getting the crap kicked out of them for 15+ years now and in my opinion it's payback time. (Option 1 = PAYBACK! BURN IT DOWN! RELEASE THE HOUNDS! SHUT THE DOORS! WE WILL TEACH THEM A LESSON! Now, go find a new job, sell your house, dip into the kids college fund, move to some place you have never heard of for 1/4 of the paycheck you use to have. Option 2 = Take it like a man. Work a little harder for a little less money. Keep your job, your house, the kids college fund and your paycheck. Grumble daily in the cockpit about how bad life is.
QX provides a far superior service to any regional out there and the board knows it. (True. But everything has a limit. If it costs to much and the ROI isn't enough it doesn't matter)
It's guys like you who stand in the way of "Airgroup Pilots should fly Airgroup airplanes". (As someone else mentioned, QX is QX and AS is AS. There are no Airgroup pilots. To think otherwise is just foolish. That being said, I wish the very best for Horizon pilots. I want them to have the 175 to cover our home state. I do not want SkyWest flying 90% of the State of Alaska 5 years from now!
Maybe just stick to your fancy PA's about the seahawks

I've been doing the standing welcome for over 6 months now. The passengers like it. I still think the company owes me $500k but I'll fight that battle at the negotiating table. The passengers deserve a quality product.

Stand up PA or not, it's up to the CA. I've done my share of riding in the back and hearing another PA is like sticking a fork in my eye. This is just my experience: 90% of the feedback I get from passengers around me every time the CA makes a standup PA has not been positive. On a few occasions, the person sitting next to me asked, "who's this clown?".

I'll never forget the time I was deadheading from PDX to SEA. Ding. Ding. The Capt. comes on the PA and does 30 minutes on Mt. St. Helens. No kidding. From sterile cockpit to sterile cockpit. The business pax just were rolling their eyes.
Add that to the redeye dudes from ANC who get to Top of Climb and start in with the 'we've reached cruise, turbulence, seat belts, blah, blah, blah,' to a sleeping cabin.
PAs. Keep them short, simple and only when required. Most frequent fliers (the people who fund your job) don't want to hear it. The people who are most impressed are the one time travelers.

I will add this. I do talk to my pax, when there is something I think they need to know. If we are broke, if we have flow, if we are going to get the ever lovin crap kicked out of us crossing the Chugach, important things that I want their attention about.
I do not make welcome aboard PA's. I only pick up the mic for two reasons. #1 = see list above. #2 = Ding, please return to your seat. (I know this helps the F/A's out if they are out with the cart).
I agree that the folks who really provide our paycheck would prefer a little peace and quiet. They won't ever get is from the F/A's, but they will always get it from me.
