SFB 80 Upgrades in class now are from 12/13 & 1/14 new-hire classes; so, just a little over 2 years. HOWEVER...there are a ton of local FOs that will upgrade ahead of you. Barring significant base growth, I foresee SFB upgrade times not being too favorable. SFB will be the last East Coast Base to transition to Airbus, and it is currently one of the senior AB bases. That, & the fact those fellas are now bearing the brunt of TDY's, SFB AB CA isn't that desirable a position for a Jr guy, even IF he could hold it. We'll all transition once the 80s are gone.
If you want to live in Orlando, plan on being in the right seat of the AB or 80 for some time...you're on the back-side of the wave, sorry to say. You could always upgrade to the "homeless base," but they're getting the screws put to them with hotel points evaporating, & rental cars & rental gas being highly scrutinized by desk jockeys in LAS that haven't a clue about the hardships of roadie life!! 😡

I think the fact that I'm at the end of the hiring wave, along with SFB not being junior may have changed by mind about applying. I was at the end of the hiring wave at XJT and even with their work rules, it has been difficult going down in seniority and being on reserve for nearly 2 years. I don't think I could handle several months of forced TDY.

Thanks a lot for the info. For anyone interested, I got a slot for a phone interview a week after I applied and haven't done a meet-and-greet. I have 3,000TT and am just shy of the 1,500 ME time for Frontier. I was contemplating wether I should continue to try to get on with Allegiant or just end up commuting with my regional since I have a line, go to a job fair and wait for Spirit or hopefully Frontier. My wife is pregnant and we are hoping to move to Orlando so we can have family support.

not sure who told you we are at the end of the hire wave at allegiant. We will be hiring 30 to 40 a month for the foreseeable future. IF anything those rates will likely increase with the legacies continuing to need more pilots. The only thing that will possibly slow hiring at allegiant a bit would be a decent contact for the pilots. Even then the growth is not slated to stop. I think even to the financial world Allegiant has said to expect 15% year over year growth until further notice

Certainly with projected growth, who knows what will happen?! But I just want the OP to know there's no 'quick upgrade' to SFB any time soon.

I didn't say we were at the end of the hiring wave, just that barring substantial growth at SFB, a CA slot wasn't going to come there anytime soon! There are only 32 or so CA's there now, with no real prospects of any of them moving on. There are just as many mostly-local FO's that will upgrade there. So, a new-hire today awarded AB SFB has little chance of upgrading in SFB for years, since that is one of the most senior slots in the company. A NH awarded SFB 80 FO will be waiting, under current conditions, to upgrade to the 'homeless base' in 9-12 months. But SFB upgrade will take years. Once again...barring any significant base expansion.

MD-80 VBD will be quickest upgrade, usually. You are based at a different base every month as part of VBD. You basically bid for your base each month then bid your schedule within that base based on your overall seniority. Some guys got lucky and lived near a base and were able to bid that base while VBD based. Because a lot of our flying is seasonal they use the VBD to plus up a high demand base for a short time.

I heard they all got together and had a meeting and they all decided to stay.... Don't have any proof so take it as you will. Was told most of them have families, own homes in their bases and are comfortable here with decent seniority.
