because this is asked almost weekly...

for the record... in the last 2 years, there has not been any FO who can't get the base they want (provided they're on that equipment) within a year of their hire date. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

So, new hires, pending some substantial change (inside or outside the company), you'll get the base you want... quickly.

Just curious if the schedules have changed much with the new contract.

The only exception might be IWA. It seems like the list of guys waiting to get there is getting long. There are 4 of us just in the October class.

There are two in the May class that want IWA, too.

The answer to this question probably has to do more with where you are based. I'm in a larger base. For Oct, Nov, and Dec, I'm seeing ~20 off per month.

Actually, the real answer is that we don't know. The scheduling section of the contract doesn't take affect until January and the January bid period is still open. We won't know for sure until the schedules are published...even then, it may take a month or two to get it exactly right and fully realize the effect of the language.

I don't foresee any significant changes, but the company's contracted labor relations firm is very good at interpreting language in a manner that intentionally maximizes negative unintended consequences and then blaming the CBA and/or union, so we'll see.

Have they changed significantly enough to have consistently commutable lines right from the start? Probably not… if that is what you are asking. There is new language in the CBA that limits the number of single days off. 6 days off are required to be grouped together (ie, 1 group of 6 days off, 2 groups of 3 days off, 1 group of 4 days off and 2 days off, etc). This language helps the Jr. guys, especially those on rsv. A rsv line has minimum of 12 days off, so there is a possibility of having 6 single days off in a month. Being relatively senior, this new language doesn’t affect me much since I don’t have an issue holding groups of days off.

Because of how flying is distributed throughout the year, and because we have PBS and several bases of varying size, there are many variables that can affect a jr pilot's ability to get a commutable line. When I was new, I had a reserve month that was entirely commutable and the next month would have been tough.

The one thing to keep in mind is seniority comes quickly here… if hiring continues. Variable Base Domicile is a better option for guys that don’t live near a base. However, to truly reap the benefits, live near a base. QOL can be excellent!

Sqwkvfr is right… several changes to scheduling section that we haven’t seen yet.

Default The best way...

Fellow aviators, I wanted to know what route to take when applying to G4... Do I send a resume to the HR email that's on the website? Do I go through airline apps? I'm searching through the website but it's not very clear what route to take when applying. Thanks for your help!
