Really? I just did my log book....65% and night and 35% day flying. Welcome to reserve and redeyes only thing in open time. Also, now that I can hold a line, the schedule sodimiser builds many trips with red eyes to day rest to late night flying!!! You are working more on the same day.....just in the dark!
Give me a break everyone, I've flown more at night at AA then I ever did at a regional. So many of our schedules start or end with a redeye, that I've had entire monthly schedules with at least one on each trip. Going from night schedules to day flying over 3-4 days is far worse on the human body then what FEDEX bulids. Far worse.

Yea, really. I'd like to see the percentage of block hours at AA from 0000-0600 and compare it to that of FX. They are a night freight company, we aren't.
You said 65% night? So does that mean the true definition of night, or are you talking true backside of the clock stuff? I'd bet it's the former.
I didn't say AA didn't have any backside of the clock flying. Of course we do. And yes AA flies more at night than a regional. I don't know any regional that flies true international or redeyes.
If you want to avoid backside of the clock stuff you're going to have be be about 50% or better on a group 2 plane. Obviously have to avoid group 3 and 4.
The redeyes are a huge reason why we need average calendar day protection. I wonder if the true redeyes (late departure day one, sit 24 hours, early arrival day 3) go as junior at UA and DL. If they paid 15:30 here I doubt they'd go as junior as they do.

My UAL and DAL buddies fly as many red eyes as do my AA buds.
Seriously guys. If you don't want to fly red eyes, don't come to any of the Big 3, or FDX/UPS. Stay at a regional or go to SWA. Heck even Frontier, JB and Spirit fly a ton.
Do FDX/UPs guys fly more red eyes than us? I'm not sure. What I do know is that one my good buds went to FDX after his AA furlough in '93 and that's ALL he did. It got so bad he took a recall back to AA at his first chance. Maybe that's changed today, this was 25 years ago.

No redeyes on the 190. Our latest arrival is 2300ish. That's one of the main reasons I'm still on it.

ALGT also. No red eyes or hotels. Decent pay, not hard to crack 300k at the top pay rate.

Off of the original topic but on the subject of red eyes...
I've seen a lot of 2 leg red eyes at CLT recently. I.e. Fly to PHX sit 24 hours. Fly a leg to SAN/SLC etc. sit an hour THEN fly a red eye. Serious ball buster, I'm seeing more of them though. Seems completely unacceptable to me.

That's BS. They're going to need to be fatigued a significant amount to get rid of them.
