they do compete with UPS and FDX. And also help them. https://www.uspsoig.gov/blog/cooperative-competitors

"Modern era" (defined?). Congress decided that every should have equal access to mail service. Hence a mailbox at, or close to, every residence in America. You do not have a FDX or UPS drop box at every residence

United Airlines (and others) is flying some cargo flights, and helping keep pilots in the air, with US Mail being part of the cargo. They don't fly UPS or FDX boxes. https://hub.united.com/united-cargo-...645563015.html

What do you say to the people of rural America, who would lose access to mail because they’re live in areas that are not profitable to deliver to?

Why doesn’t the military have to compete with private entities? Why are they not expected to turn a profit?

I believe they are turning a profit, you are not speaking Chinese as your first language.

Funny! Especially coming from someone who doesn’t know what profit means.

By your (and only your) definition, the post office turns a profit by delivering essential goods such as medication to people who otherwise would not have mail service. Thanks for the help

Would you please show me a map of the places in rural America that FedEx and UPS don't deliver to?

If somebody wants to send a bill or a legal document to farmer John they can pay $5 to do it. The clowns sending junk mail for $.05/piece can get bent.

The military is part of the government; the USPS despite having United States in the name is not part of the government neither is FEDERAL express or the FEDERAL reserve. Hence they need to make profits or eventually go out of business.

The USPS is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States government. It’s explicitly authorized by the constitution.

Please, tell us more though!

Some other agencies that don't make a profit:
ICE, FBI, VA, USAF, CDC, NIH, USN, U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress, POTUS, etc. etc.
Like Malaria spent $600,000 over 2 months going to NYC for hair appointments...

No where except the secret is in many rural areas and even populated areas it’s not uncommon for UPS and Fedex to have the postal service do their last mile.

I live in Frisco, Texas. It is an upscale suburb of Dallas. About 1 in 3 packages to my residence from UPS and Fedex do their final mile by USPS.
