lol!! thats a good one, and he is probably a JA for posting that crap. Its a slippery slope to assume you know the person finances of every 62+ year old pilot at this airline. Its an individual choice and I don't care to know what their financial situation is bc its none of my business. Its a crappy time for all.

Wtf. Thank you very much. Now upwards of 2500 of us pilots will be unemployed at AA alone. I feel bad for all the workgroups getting furloughed, but they're not going from six figures to unemployment. We can't make up for our current salaries by driving for Uber Eats.

I am only mildly optimistic about a couple of things right now.

#1: APA and our new (finally) negotiating committee began meeting with the company today to come up with furlough avoidance/mitigation ideas. I'm kind of hopeful for now.

#2. There seems to be a pretty good desire in Washington to extend the Cares Act and the Payroll Protection Program another six months for the airlines.

#3. Actually having a vaccine by the end of the year/beginning of next year appears to be a reality now. Once we have a vaccine I believe it'll be a watershed moment. People will feel more comfortable, and begin wading into the pool again.. aka: going about their normal lives including air travel.

But yeah..we shouldn't be hanging onto such a thin thread right now. If morons had just acted like adults back in March and wore the masks we would be in a much better place. It doesn't help that we don't have any kind of leadership right now..but I won't even get into that.

I can't help but think of England during World War Two..when the Nazis were conducting nightly bombing raids on them. The entire city of London would go dark so the German bombers wouldn't have a target to strike.

Imagine if in the middle of that blackout some redneck waving the British flag lit up his entire house and claimed it was his "freedom" to do whatever he wanted. Yeah..now replace bombs with COVID and lights with masks. That's the level of stupid we're dealing with in America today.

I read an article by a virus modeler. He said this spike was going to occur no matter how long the lockdown lasted. It was interesting. They couldn’t modify the model/date to not have this happen. His quote was “the spike was waiting for us. Sooner or later it was just in the numbers.”

The virus works differently in our country than in others apparently.

I think the answer to that is in who you ask.

Really? I've been trying to find any mention online that would suggest Washington is even entertaining the idea of an extension. All I've seen so far are the unions pushing for it. If you've actually heard something that suggests the politicians are even considering it, that's a good thing.

but the numbers in other countries seem to be extraordinarily low compared to ours. Seems our response failed comparatively

Well, we have tested a much larger number, and we have a much larger population.

Read a study today that the rapid tests have had a "false positive" rate of more than 28%. Some of the companies have lost their FDA authorization as a result (look at the stock ticker for CEMI). So, between false positive tests and manipulated numbers, it certainly looks bad. But it isn't.

The short answer is that we have NOT had a failed response, just a failed political system that is using this as a publicity stunt to try to regain what they lost previously.
