Isom’s message to pilots on aapilots.com
I’m not a labor law expert but isn’t it kind of out of bounds for C.E.O Robert Isom to address contract matters/negotiations DIRECTLY WITH THE PILOT GROUP, (via video presentation on aapilots.com), instead of keeping those discussions where they belong, - “at the bargaining table”, with our duly elected union representatives,…… (and legal counsel)????
In effect, it appears to me that Isom is circumventing labor law, by appealing directly to the entire members of the union, without consent and/or counsel of the labor union leaders and lawyers.
At a minimum, this seems inappropriate. At its worse, it might be illegal.

I think he may be realizing that the petty 4% offer isn’t going to work. If the UAL AIP is legit, and Delta’s(?), then he is waking up to the fact that he needs to up his game and come up with a real offer.

Well he forked out a Billion dollar deal at the the WO in September, is forking out another Billion dollar deal again to them in June. United forking out billion dollar deal to their pilots.
Probably worried things are going to heat up too fast and wanted to hurry up and make promises so that they don’t.

My point is that Isom appears to be going AROUND the duly elected union negotiators, taking his case directly to the union members. Again, I’m not a labor law expert but that seems like bad faith bargaining tactics.
Imagine you were injured in a rear-end auto accident and the insurance company’s lawyer decided he didn’t want to deal with your legally appointed attorney/representative. So he just showed up at your door, (or sent you a video) trying to “good ol’ boy” you into a settlement. If that happened, the insurance company’s lawyer would be severely sanctioned by the court. What Isom did was very much the same thing. We’re REPRESENTED by our union leaders, negotiators, and legal counsel. Isom should negotiate WITH THEM!
Seems to me that either management is not smart enough to realize that they’re bargaining in bad faith or they think that our union is not smart enough to realize that management is bargaining in bad faith. Either way, one of them should be offended.

True, but that’s not my point.

I totally got your point before…I was just trying to add to it. Regarding your synopsis, I love how in the beginning, you’re not a labor law expert but then all of a sudden you’re an ambulance chaser “lawyer”. These tactics by CEOs such as Isom are nothing new. He sees the weakness in our “unity”.

I think he's worried that the operation is gonna burn down over the summer, and decided to dangle a carrot to see if he'll get some of us to continue to lean forward. He knows we're all talking about United's AIP and now the money thrown at the WOs, and with the union constantly sending emails about managements insulting 4/3 offer, even the dudes that love the koolaid aren't happy with where we are in negotiations. He knows the majority of us will see through the BS, but we're a divided group and if he can soften up even a handful, it might mitigate some of the damage.
