737 or 320 in MIA
#42
It ebbs and flows, same for CLT and wherever the other guy asked about. Also, reserve life is a chess game, lots of nuance to it and lots of techniques. Your block of days on length, where in the month you take days off, when to proffer..and dare I say, PR 😳 (premium reserve) on days on and or to force a 7D break all make a difference in how much you work and how much you make.

Expect to get used as a 737/320 FO in every base most reserve days, especially during the summer. Trips pop open all the time at the last second in the bigger bases so don’t think you’ll sit around for weeks and not fly.

The 737 does more island flying than the bus for the most part so more exotic in a way. There’s times certain destinations swap around between equipment but I’d say the bus I do more domestic sometimes, especially on the NEO between the coasts. Here’s some to name a few.
Bus: LIM BOG BDA SDQ PUJ CUN MEX HAV
737: GUA MDE UIO GYE SJU PTY
I flew the 737 for along time at another carrier for almost a decade and I can tell you as quirky as the bus is I’m more in favor of the bus for comfort and just overall less work! I put the bus as my top choice for upgrade in MIA for down the road. I wouldn’t make a choice based on destinations as they change all the time. Hell we’re doing 787 runs to HAV.

it varies, sometimes you’re stuck with turns and other times you might get lucky and get some Caribbean overnights. Seems like there might be a good month with some good overnights down south or like next month for me seems to be hub overnights with turns to the islands. 737 just has better luck with that.

Slim to none layovers in the carribean for the MIA base. The general way things go for MIA is you do a trip and finish with a “penalty lap” to one of the islands, either on the beginning or end of a 2,3, or 4 day trip. It’s the other bases that get the nice Caribbean layovers. They’re far enough away from the islands where a turn isn’t feasible but close enough where they can fly through MIA and do one leg to the layover.

There are not a lot of these but IMO the 737 has more opportunity of them in MIA than the Bus... But it is always changing! Don't forget the tray table in the Bus is super Gucci... Let's be honest you took this job for the free first class meals!

Once you get at a line at MIA, either 737 or 320...How many days OFF normally? I went over the entire post and I couldn't find it. Just trying to compare with another Legacy that I got a hold of their 737 February award, with 16 days OFF for the junior people. Similar at AA? Around 16 OFF is the norm?
Thank you!!!!
