The difference between Delta and American is Delta has a competent management team that, while not exactly loving labor, acknowledges that spending resources on labor can result in a revenue premium.
If people are looking for a reason NOT to come to AA, look no further than Isom, the AA BoD, and their cronies.

Yep. And DALPA didn’t spend any negotiating capital getting that horrible treatment of new hires fixed. Delta management did it themselves, as they should have.

I’d like to hear from someone currently in new-hire training as to how far out their “pay date” is in relation to hire date as well as the norm among classmates…anyone?
When I was a new-hire and there were no delays it was 14.5 months. That was when there were no training dept issues…

Sorry for late update K4 people
Ok sorry to my K4 people. I for some reason couldn’t send a private message and I never use this site at all. (So probably user error)
I’ll just do a public post. SO SORRY IT TOOK ME SO LONG
Indoc:
Simple, easy, and welcoming. HR was nice but the technology gap is huge here, worse than K4 and we ended up inputting most of our own information in a system that was made in the 80s. All in all, Indoc was easy and fun. They don’t teach you anything though in regard to day-to-day life at AA. You’ll learn from friends.
You pick your base and aircraft on day one. MIA or LGA it seems right now as of this writing.
Sims:
Very easy. Compared to the firehose and sim instructors that are trying to get you to mess up like at K4, AA was a breath of fresh air. I went in with the supplemental mindset of knowing everything and was extremely over-prepared. I was a little shocked at how little prepared some of the others were. I had a great captain upgrade partner, and the sims were a breeze, I learned a lot of things too. I enjoyed it.
OE:
I had two OE trips. The first one was great. CKA was a great teacher, and we had a good, uneventful trip. I felt prepared and ready for the line after that 4 day.
The second trip was so/so. He was a little grumpy and wasn’t a teacher at all. Was more of a paycheck CKA. He was nice enough to me and had no real complaints.
Reserve:
I was short call reserve (SCR) for the first few months. IF YOU LIVE IN BASE! This is an awesome life. I was flying 50-60 hours a month and sleeping in my own bed for 20+ nights. I normally received 6-24 hours notice and only once received a 2-hour call and they told me to “do my best” to get there and paid for my short-term parking.
Long call reserve (LCR) is new to me. So far, I put in a proffer or “daily bid” for what is available to fly and I get one. Have the first day off, fly a 2-3 day, and go home.
Crews:
I am MIA based. I can’t speak to the other bases at all. I have enjoyed all my MIA captains. They have all been fun and helpful to fly with. A few are pretty mad at how their careers turned out and will complain the whole trip, but they don’t take it out on me. I try to just complain with them and let them vent, some of them really deserve to feel slighted and I recognize that I am blessed with how my career might turn out. So, I can’t blame them. As I said, they don’t take it out on me, so go ahead senior dog, bark away I’ll listen lol.
Money:
The first year pay sucks. Like really sucks. No 401k either. It’s bad, that is all.
American Airline Operations:
Cant speak to it. I am still too new. I have been screwed by scheduling once so far and I am sure more will come. The contract talks don't look good and AA isn't that friendly towards us. I will not paint a picture that all things are amazing here. Way more experienced guys are on this site and can fill books with their experience with the company. I am not the Jr pilot to give you an honest assessment on that. So, I wont try to.
All in all, this is way better than K4 to ME, only ME. If anyone from K4 needs more info, just PM a number and I will text you. Fly safe guys, hope this helps. May you always get the Shangri-La Hotel in HKG

daybyday and I have had very similar experiences. No major issues with his write up. I live in CLT and was based in DCA for my first two months on the line. Fortunately I was able to do TDY to NYC for my last month in DCA which was AWESOME. Company paid hotel for the entire month in midtown and they reimburse all the transportation expenses associated with a trip. Super easy.
Have also had a similar reserve experience in base. Counting today, in the last twelve days I've done one turn. YMMV. Parts of the trip assignment process are still a mystery but there is some visibility as to where you fall on the list and what's coming next.
And for me it'll be 15 months of 1st year pay. June can't come fast enough.
