Depending on the circumstances, it might be possible for mainlines to recapture SOME flying like that and break even as opposed to outsourcing.
And even that falls a little short. We don't have to match or beat bottom feeder bock hour rates just accounting for the money spend subsidizing their margins or overhead. All we have to do is be able to operate that flying, with total costs apread out and amortized throughout the entire operation, so that the whole operation is run well and profitably.

That said, we absolutely get full and complete "barganing credit" for the many, many, many billions of dollars wasted on DCI outsourcing blunders to apply to our cost side of the equation. To not do so would be incredibly intellectually disingenuous.

But what fun would that be. Let's hit the links, fire up the stogies, swirl some brandy and chortle at our block hour savings bonuses, fellow B school geniuses! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I was reading the earlyer part of this thread. I just want to throw in an opinion. The fact is an AA BK has happened. APA pilots will loose. As much as I love a Jimmy Hoffa type approach times have changed and the law is gives the airline the power. Don't fight the airline or other airmen, regional or other majors. Focus your efforts on what can really change this. Government! Put this effort into your senators and local officials. Make them aware and follow up.

Airline bk is like getting legally robbed. Vote YES and get robbed or vote NO and get robbed and your house taken as well.

AA pilots will "loose" ?

Well, we are STAYING loose, but have no plans to LOSE. Not sure what you are referring to about Hoffa. As far as I know, no has had their kneecaps broken yet. As for the rest of your advice, we'll take it under advisement.

Agreed. For all you regional pilots that think mainline pilots sold scope. Nothing could be further from the truth. The mainline groups are fighting as hard as possible to maintain it.

There are no set limits on the power the bankruptcy judge has other than the framework of section 1113, he can issue an opinion on anything. However the basis of a rejected contract is labor law and associated government rules and regulations. Just because one judge thinks the RLA is null and void, doesn't mean it is.

AA has not ordered larger RJ's as of this time because it does not have a consensual agreement with its pilots to operate those aircraft. That supposed gun against your head is imaginary.

I am watching from the bleachers and as such I don't get to take a snap in this game. However it doesn't appear the mechanics are going to fare too well after the deal they struck with management.

Did I read that right? they are letting 4400 guys go that actually tried to play the game their way. Bankruptcy sucks for most involved. Unless you have one of those nice parachutes to catch you.
