You might want to read up on it, I don't think it's that simple any more. Something about sim and ground training as well. I think you're looking at $10k or so. The commuters doing it have a program in place, I doubt we do, no need.

Extremely difficult. I'm at a non-wholly owned regional that flies just for AAG, and I haven't heard of anyone getting hired of there. Most I know have given up on American and are focusing on DAL, UAL and others. It's too bad, we have a lot of excellent people who live in or close to an American domicile, who would love the chance to interview.

If half are flows and the total is 35-40% prior military that means 'off the street' is 75% (+/-) former military. So off the street 'civilian only' might be a small pool (12% of all newhires?).

Hang in there guys!
I applied anywhere and everywhere for about 5 years (started about the time age 65 kicked in) and I got many, many "thanks but no thanks" emails.....
And then one day I got a "please update your application" email and an interview call a couple days later.
Don't know why it took so long, and I don't care. I'm just happy it all worked out.
I have a feeling that once all the recalls are worked through and the flows are done, there will be a huge amount of hiring.
-Hang in there and don't get discouraged. I know of several people who just gave up. Hard to get hired anywhere when you do that.
*Important-prep way ahead of time. Go to FAPA or somewhere and get practice prep before you ever think about an interview. Read the ATP test prep. Check out gouges for places you would like to be. The call may come and it may be something along the lines of "can you interview here next week?" Be ready.
(And DO NOT call in sick at your current employer (to make it to dream interview!) Beg, borrow, buy a trip off-but don't be sick. They will know..... And that will likely result in a permanent "thanks but no thanks" no matter how well that interview goes.
