Ok,

If all the stars align just so, there may be a few 15 yr G4 Captains in 15 years.

A guy just a class senior to me was a 1011 f/o for 4.5 of our first 5 years.

He was the only one. It was nearly ten years before the rest of us got close to that, and then only for a few months.

Group 4 CA at 13 yrs is not a realistic expectation for the typical 2015 hire, at least not very many of them.

This years' hires will have good careers. Maybe even great ones. Especially if they are young.

I have just seen a lot of folks disillusioned and disappointed and bitter over too-optimistic career "projections".

Reality, and recognizing the outliers and risks, is better for folks.

Who here thinks we go 15 years without a recession, war, cabotage, retirement age increase or other career-changing external event?

AA parked an entire fleet of 707's one week.

It was 5 years before they ordered replacements.

I know... Couldn't happen.

IMHO, I don't care if I never make G4 CA. I'd rather be 10 minutes from the terminal than chase a seat...just me tho.

None of this comes with a guarantee. It's just the projections based on the numbers.

Five year upgrades? Laughable but guys still bring it up as a yardstick. LIke the newhire FE telling us he's going to upgrade in five years. I ask the FO "do you think you're upgrading in five years?" No, and I'm 2000 numbers senior to him.

The retirement numbers, and growth in Group VI jobs, will be stunning for the guys hired today. The early movers, especially after such a long gap in hiring, will do very well.

I just want the G4 FO early retirement plan... By the time I get there, I believe I can budget for 76hrs at $200ish an hour. Y'all go be 5 year G2 Captains!!!

Just sharing some stuff...

It's still a great time to get hired

And, after a corporate raider, 4 BK's, one lopsided SLI about to be made even more so by another and witnessing or being involved in uncountable episodes of unbelievable daily BS and wondrous management decisions, I do still like my job and enjoy going to work.

I hope y'all can say the same thing in thirty years.

Unrealistic expectations are a poor foundation.

Lots of 787's options will probably be converted, plus more A350's and probably a 777X order will keep the G4 positions coming. They will probably keep the 767's as long as possible with the investment into updating the interiors and improving mx. My guess is 5-7 years G2 upgrade time for someone hired 2013/2014. G4 captain in 12-15 years as predicted in earlier threads. I see AA as trending towards keeping our intl flying in-house and not JV'ing like others do. It will be a great G4 airline gig if you want that. *all subject to change

I hope ya' all are right.

If so, then yours truly can "retire" to dozing for dollars for my last 5 years too.

Been hauling folks around the midwest in light twins for a long time now. A nap would ne nice....

Sorry, new guy here. Do we really have "dozing for dollars" at AA? Did I miss the sarcasm or were you referring to being a FB in a 777?
