I've done Delta and American interviews. Hired by both, going with American. One big selling point was how I was treated at American vice Delta. If you know about the Delta hiring process you know it is a major PITA and they treat you like 'we are the best, you want us, end of story.' American is the exact opposite. They treat you like 'you are the best, we want you, and welcome to the family.' There is not gouge for American because you don't need it. Either you have the skills and personality or you don't. It's 1/2 day of computer testing that requires zero prep and then the next day it's another 1/2 day of interviews that are much more straight forward than Delta. There are no stump the dummy type of questions. Maybe others have different opinions, but this was my experience between the two. After the interview and hiring was done, it was the same world-class treatment from American and the same cold shoulder from Delta. I hope you get fortunate enough for an American interview!

Concur with the previous post on the atmosphere of the interview. Back prior to my interview I posted here (http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/am...ml#post2005830) and got some good info on the video interview. I think the face to face interview had been revised; from what I had been told it used to be more of a conversation with you and the pilots, and they now go through a question list, but it's all pretty standard TMAAT stuff.
As far as timeline, email for video interview was about eight months after application went in. 3-4 weeks after that was a request for additional info on pilotcredentials (SSN). 3-4 weeks after that was a call for face to face interview. A little over two weeks later was CJO for a class two months later.
There is a cog test, but don't worry about it. It is designed to failure, so the better you do, the harder it gets. They very much emphasized to not worry about your performance on the tests.

Awesome info! Thanks! I think you might have convinced me to include them in my application! I appreciate the info.

Tons of great info! Thanks! That's enough to make me put an app in....

Nice to hear that. Night and day difference. Makes me feel even better about working here.

It's too bad the US Airways people went away. If you liked the AA environment you would've died and gone to heaven under Airways. Every time the 682 scheduling calls I sigh now.

I concur with all the other posts concerning American. I received CJOs from DL, UA, and AA...AA being the most humane and enjoyable interview experience.

New timelines though. Video interview 8 months after Application submitted (they were not hiring yet), video interview submitted, 8 hrs later extra info, 8 hrs after that request for interview. was in interview 2.5 weeks later, CJO 6 days after that. They want good dudes, now!

I was told by an FO that does interviews, that the letters really don't come into play until after the interview (if at all). They only come into play, IF they want to see that an AA pilot has vouched for you. I'm paraphrasing for what it's worth.
