I'm curious how this October bid is going to affect the Academy. Even though it's just going to be a standard vacancy bid, I imagine that a chain reaction of training events will occur as a result. We already seemingly have a full plate just keeping the recalls and small new hire classes going through, while keeping everyone current. I wonder how they'll keep classes going while getting these preference and entitlements all trained up?

The pay thing changes with our checks tomorrow. PBS is already here in ORD (and BOS and LAA DCA). I don't think there's a lot of difference in the way the trips look. There are some stupidly high block time and duty day pairings, but that was the case prior to PBS. Not accepting extensions and not allowing them to plan flights at unrealistic airspeeds will hopefully help them see the light after awhile. Who knows?

No clue on the 190.

Lucky - there's not going to be 500 guys generating training via the post SLI bid. There's X training slots. Manning fills those as needed. That's why it takes awhile after the run before the awards are released. They start allowing, or denying, bids to fill the training slots for the different bases/seats they need.

So it might take months and months, along with the company generating the slots via retirement or equipment growth or shuffling manning in bases, for everyone to get the transfers they want.

I understand that there won't be massive vacancies on that bid. I just assume that there will be a backfill vacuum created. Ostensibly a few vacancies in 2 bases could cause a chain reaction of training events needed as crews swap equipment for their new choice of available bases. Just a few dozen vacancies in LAX or MIA seem capable of creating 100 plus training cycles. I realize that they won't be doing these all at once, but it could sure fill up the dance card in a hurry.

I think so too. One vacancy in CLT or DFW could cause 6+ training events. What ever is best for the company is what will happen.

How are you liking PBS so far?
I have zero experience with it.

One month in, I think it's good. I worked pretty hard at getting a good standing bid and learning how to get sensible layers built. I think that there are some people senior to me that might take a few months to get up to speed on it. As a result I did a little better than I would have expected to with a paper bid, but I wouldn't be surprised if that changed as people figure out the system.

Hey folks. I guess I passed the video interview as I'm scheduled to interview end of Aug as a new OTS mil guy.. Any idea how long it will take new hires to get DFW? (months or is it years?) Should I start looking at crash pads in Miami if I am fortunate enough to get the CJO? Thanks so much!

You're looking at a wait of at least a year. I'm in a very similar situation - OTS mil hire, started in Feb of this year, live near DFW and MIA based. During Indoc I checked the 3XP (manning document) and the lowest guy at DFW had been hired 18 months prior. In theory that means I should now be inside a year, but there are plenty of factors that could change this; PBS, SLI (possible senior US Air guys moving to DFW), MD80 retirements (high number in DFW which will result in transfers). Right now the Airbus at DFW is junior to the 737, so bidding for that during Indoc may get you there a little quicker.
