I was fortunate enough to bid off the 190 such that I'll only have two weeks of 2nd year 190 rates then get the AB rates. But there is some luck involved in that.

I don't mind the flying, but don't know any different since I was an AF fighter pilot. I am looking forward to the AB, and maybe I'll change my mind about the 190 flying after flying that for a while.

Feel free to PM me for specifics.
Are you able to upgrade on 190? What are the pros and cons of doing so? Is there a company policy that would limit upgrading (e.g. 1000 hours with company, 2000 crew aircraft time, 1000 turbine pic). I know some airlines have rules like that and they usually get the new guys.

Yes, you need 500 hours at the airline.

Pros:

more money, under the MTA rates (for second year) its $117 190 capt vs $86 AB F/O. Even sitting reserve you'll make more as a second year 190 capt. After year 4 or so you'd make more as a group 4 F/O.

Cons:

you'll be on short call. Some people don't like the flying. Doesn't really bother me. I'm a commuter so don't want to be on short call. If I lived in base I'd jump on it. I also am not even close to 500 hours due to mil leave/bought trips/zero flying one month on short call/etc.

I actually deduct him points. Very poor advice indeed!

I was placed on the 190 initially and loved it. They checkout is easy so you can focus on the FOM. Your relative seniority will increase quickly just in time to bid a319 long call.

The 190 is a smart play.

I have friends that were hired in February holding long call in PHL, and close to long call in DCA. Probably takes about a year told hold long call there.
