American Poolie Info

Just going by APC, it seems like they're only doing classes once a month (April 21, May 19) unless there are other class dates in there I have missed? I wonder if there will be an early June class. Hopefully a few of us can squeeze into it if there is one.

Yeah, it seems like there were two classes per month until May/June, but then it made sense that they would've gone down to one class when people mentioned that there was a backup with the sims. Fingers crossed that they've caught up by now. To add about 600 pilots this year it seems like they'd need to keep things moving, especially since training slows down so much for the holidays. But yeah, hopefully someone with more info can chime in.

This wait is killing me. going almost 5 months in the pool with no end in sight. Hired in first group this Jan. Any reason not to interview if DAL calls? Seems more earning potential there and better contract with PS, but not sure about long term seniority. Pushing 41 and may end up with better seniority at American in the end. Heavy left seat sooner at AA by looking at the retirement numbers Is that worth making less $$? In the end QOL matters. Delta has been hiring like crazy in last year and all seem to be early to mid 30s. AA only seems to be getting mostly older Eagle flow throughs which doesn't effect me much. Opinions? I think i know what everyone will say but just curious.

Quest - keep your foot on the gas until you're at the airline you want. Even if AA is #1 you're not there. You're just a guy offered a job.
Based on the hiring numbers, and ages of guys coming onboard, I'd think that the AA seniority deal is better for guys getting hired today.
IMO no carrier is 'better' that it's worth commuting to if you have another carrier where you live. ATL? Chase DL. DFW? Chase AA. SFO? Chase UA.

I'm in your boat. I interviewed end of Jan and got a CJO. United then called me and wants me to interview next week but I was afraid I'd be in class by July if I did get hired and then have a class date with AA in August. So I asked and they are allowing me to push my interview date to August.
Yes I'll give up a lot of numbers if I go with United but AA is where I want to be for QOL (Domicile) so it's worth the gamble. Hopefully AA comes through and gets me in class by August. It'll be a year in September when I started the interview process with AA.
Good luck

Don't pass up any interviews or class dates until you are IN CLASS at the airline you want to be at. I had a class date at Northwest in 2008. They cancelled the class and put me in a pool. They merged with Delta and I never got a call from Delta, even though I met all of their requirements.
On the LUS side, the training backlog is getting cleared up and they are short on FOs. Hopefully they will increase hiring.
