The SLI will put many senior line holders back in abuse territory. It won't be pretty but the time for making plans will soon be on us.
under the right circumstances, a producer could actually make more money with a flop than he can with a hit

Dang, that's two threads in the last few weeks that have creeped from SLI: must be perfect timing for its release.

Have you used PBS as a junior guy? The junior guys I've spoken with said that PBS, in general, gives them the days off they want. Another guy said he's a minimum commute guy first and PBS provides that. And PBS generates more lines which allows guys the option of being a junior line holder vs being on reserve.
They've grumbled about PBS but have said they'd prefer to never go back to paper bidding.
Never really used it as a junior guy, so I got spoiled on the system. If I wasn't doing 6-8hr credit local trips three days a week for the month, it was a kick in the nuts for me. Guys knew when I screwed up my bid if they ever saw me doing an overnight!

Even as a junior guy now, I'm really looking forward to PBS. I'll probably be flying more crap trips, but I'll have a lot more of my desired days off and a better overall schedule.

So far, IMO I haven't seen a single post of substance on this topic including my own, so drift is predictable. Once less questionable leaks start (most likely at or after the comment period), then it will become more robust. Once the award is out, it should be downright explosive.

I've used it as a junior pilot. I have a feeling you'll be eating crow with this statement, and not just eating it, but shoveling it in.

The last sentence may be true from my query of many of those who are paralleling (at least so far), but I think pay will go down for the high-timers and most especially the premium patrol. PBS is designed to eliminate inefficiencies and so less open time will mean less reserve scrambling, less premium and less ability to TTOT. I think most will have a better chance at post award schedule modification via TT with other pilots or picking up what they want to drop. If you are a high-timer, you'll still be able to get some extra, but less open time means less flexibility in doing so and just like eliminating the requirement of paying for conflicts, a lessor requirement to pay premium.

I'm not a high-timer, but I know some premium hounds who will take a big hit IMO. No way to truly know how it will all shake out until ALL bid statuses go PBS and then see how things settle down.

Never said it would be great for a junior guy, in fact I said it wouldn't. There's always the bad with the good, but compared to what we have now, I'll take my chances. I'm looking forward to it because I know as I get more senior, my schedule will be much better than it otherwise would have. Everyone has different priorities when it comes to their schedule, so we can go round and round on this topic forever. But I do know that for my next 30 or so years at this airline, about 70% of it will be at the top half of the seniority list. Personally, I'd much rather build my own monthly line rather than someone else do it for me and hopefully I can fix it later.
