In the mean time there were guys in the pool before them. They were bang, bang ups and gone to MIA for training. That's preferential hiring. Its because the airline knew they were ANC residents and would most likely be staying in ANC, a base they have trouble staffing.

Thanks for the answers on ZED. Not sure there is a difference between preferential hire list and "pool". The only outcomes that were possible is hired, pool wait on date, or do not hire. I think these are one in the same.

Nope. Preferential hiring is just that...preferential. The two guys I know that just got hired were ANC based, local boys with other airlines. They interviewed and got hired for the next class...747s in ANC.

I appreciate the response! I've heard it both ways. Not that it matters; the pool was totally empty before this round of interviews and they even filled spots in an 31AUG and 7SEPT class from guys that interviewed on the first and second days. The way things are going, the pool will be empty again before the October interviews.

Did everyone that made it to the pool get placed on the preferential hiring list? Is that just a fancy name for the pool? Also, for those of you that interviewed and didn't make it, don't be discouraged. I know a few guys that didn't make it on their first try but made it quickly on the second try. Don't give up!!
The pool is not first in, first out. At Atlas, the RUMOR is that everyone in the pool has a score and they keep skimming from the top of the list unless it completely empties. Only HR knows the true story and how you are scored.

Unless something has changed and they recently went to a FIFO system since they started hiring after the furlough recalls, it's ALWAYS been a "pool". With candidates having the higher "overall scores" getting plucked out first.
In the brief they're NOT going to tell you the pool is competitive, and you could be swimming for possibly a year like a few have.

And it wasn't that long ago that they interviewed a healthy amount of pilots living in S. FL/MIA area.
Of course that's the way they describe it.

Thanks for the info, folks. For those of you who also made it to the pool, please keep the thread updated when you get a class date. This process certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat! I'm gonna need a vacation after all the fun is over...
