2-3 years if you're on the 747. You could do it on the 767, but you'd be picking up more open time. Best I've done was about $90k, second year on the 767 (not including per diem). Granted, I stayed busy that summer picking up trips.

If on the 747 u can make over $100K your first year.

Your pay will vary GREATLY depending on if you volunteer for hazardous duty destinations and you get some of those trips, and if you volunteer to fly on your days off, and if/when you get used on your days off.

Some FOs make over $200K at Atlas.

I made right at $100K in years 2 and 3 on the 747. No overtime, some haz flying (but not too much), HSV and JFK based. Seemed like I averaged 70ish hours a month which was always based on CRT as it seemed like the flying was low due a lot of DHing around for inefficient scheduling.

Thanks for the replies and descriptions of the types of extra flying! Just the kind of things I like learning about.

I was invited to take the online assessment test. Would anyone recommend paying for Sheppard Air ATP prep software or would I be better off doing my own studying from GLEIM, etc.?

You'd be better off using CRM and getting a couple friends to sit with you while you take it to help look up answers.

I think the ATP test book is the way to go, but to be sure, read back through this thread to get the scoop on the online test. That info is all here.

I'll second the gleim book option. Hi-light the questions from the gouge in the book and focus on those sections. Also study about METAR/TAF/Wx Symbols, runway marks and signs, NAT tracks, and Performance (screen height, etc) and you be set. It took be me about 7 days and I got a 97. IMHO the phone a friend option will burn lots of valuable time, if you are totally unfamiliar with whats coming.

If you're an FO making over $200K per year here, then you have no life outside this job. You'd have to credit 110 hours per month for 12 months to come even close if you're at the top of the pay scale.
$149.33 / hour x 110 hours
= $16,426.30 / month x 12 months
= $197,115.60 / year
..... and that is pre-tax.
