Atlas Air Hiring
What, like Stupid Applicant Tricks are something new?
I remember walking in, sitting between a Southern 747 FO and a U-2 pilot (both were hired) and thinking, welp, I'm screwed! I was easily the least qualified guy in the room (RJ FO) and yet somehow talked my way in while 5 other guys talked themselves out of a job.
We had a mil guy who literally must've been told all he needed to do was show up. Had no idea how Atlas worked, what ACMI was, who we flew for or where, just that we flew cargo. Didn't bring in the paperwork all of us had been given in the interview email, claimed he didn't get it and got snippy with the HR lady who printed it out for him, said he'd do it when he got home. Came out of the HR interview saying, "Man, what's with all the CRM questions?"
Had several 747 guys from other places who figured they had it in the bag. As others have said, a little humility goes a long, long way. There was an RJ captain who, when asked why he wanted to fly for Atlas, said "I'm not really sure. I guess I'm just bored."
On the other hand, another mil guy had spreadsheets and charts and knew more about Atlas's business model on the interview day than I've learned in 4 years on line. He can hold captain now.
>Voted worst dressed, one individual in cargos and a Hawaiian shirt!
Was this at the interviews held at the Marriott hotel complex? Dude, that was a captain on a layover scamming a free lunch!

How? It affects me because I'm not getting the interview for a job I would love and have the experience for, and others are. Please don't misinterpret this... I am happy for those getting hired, good for them!! They got through the process and I know and have met many Atlas pilots, all of whom have been great guys, so clearly they did something right. It's why I wanted to work there. Good people.
Anyway, I'm done. Shouldn't drink and post.

Fwiw, based on your posts here I would not want to fly with you. No offense meant, but I suggest you think about it a bit. If you treat others the way you do on this forum (which I know isn't always the case) than I should suggest you may continue having difficulty getting a job.
Good luck.

This. We spend many hours in close quarters. Bitter and/or entitled people make a long flight longer.
Best of luck.

While I see the humor and sarcasm in your post, just think of it this way. The 10-15% of folks that make the long trips longer are a needed entity. They serve to keep the spotlight from ever falling on the rest of the seniority list. And there are specific advantages to be had when one is out of the spotlight of notoriety.

Fortunately I don't drink and fly, just drink and post. It's not entitlement, I certainly do not feel entitled to anything, I've been doing this long enough to know that isn't how it works. I'm self-aware enough to know that it's just plain old, regular style jealousy.
Should I be jealous? Probably not. But I am. I've applied off and on to Atlas for over four years, love the style of flying, know it, not a huge desire to bail in the first year like so many do, and I have a pretty decent resume. I'm not dumb enough to answer interview questions like some of the previously mentioned imbeciles, and I've worked many an 18 hour day with guys to be followed with great times at adult beverage distributors. So yes, I'm jealous. Especially since some of these pilots will bail and say they didn't know their schedule would change so much, they can't sleep, etc. As far as humility, well, if you've seen some of my landings, humility is the only thing I've got going!
But I digress. If we ever get the chance to fly together, beers on me. I'm not as complete a tool as I play on TV.
I'm an absolute gem to fly with. Really. Seriously though.

It's okay to be jealous. I'm jealous of all my colleagues who have gone to Delta, American, United, etc. But I'm also very happy for them.
If you know someone at Atlas, an LOR is the quickest way in. Otherwise keep your head up because it's unlikely you won't get an email at some point. It just might take a while.
P.S. New hires never buy the beers
