Seriously? You're class has caused some of its own issues. Not all management's (specifically MIA training center) fault. Don't be so dramatic.

I have heard someone in your class filed a grievance against an instructor. Is there any truth to this?

Not the case on my class. Not even close, the management people have been super cordial and every one of them have downplayed the amalgamation thing as some sort of silly misunderstanding, and have said that the contract can only improve. I think they are very afraid of people dropping out of training to go work somewhere else, so they are trying to seem as nice as possible. The shadiest thing I have heard so far was a management guy saying to talk to the chief pilot before calling the union if something happens on the line. I could almost hear everyone's eyes roll.

Not saying that "at will employees" thing didn't happen, but as far as my class goes, it has been the complete opposite. They have been smooth talking us all the way through.

All in.

"I understand that managment intends to amalgamate the Atlas and SAI contract and reduce the earning potential of the combined pilots in a looming pilot shortage, is that correct?"

I'm serious, ask those questions.
Good grief. Those are questions to be asked by those of us already here here and ready to fight the battle. Bad advice to someone who seriously does want to work here. They might as well show up in a Delta uniform or ask if it's true that Flynn's daughter is available.

I haven't heard of anyone filing a grievance.

As far as our class "causing" anything, it was nothing like that. Class 2/22/2016 simply asked questions and had some concerns over the complete lack of systems being taught. Someone brought that up and that is what started the fracas. Regardless of what transpired, no pilots (or any employee) should have management threaten them.

I wasn't being dramatic. I'm verifying as fact that our class was reminded we are "at-will" and that Atlas has no problem sending any of us home and that they have plenty of applications on file.

Yes, the "at will employee" speech really did happen and it wasn't about amalgamation and he wasn't kidding.

Now, the latest volley from the "big guns" at in Miami is the cease and desist order they gave to the pilot (who shall remain nameless) who has been producing the excellent guides used my many of us to supplement the meager information that is supplied by the Atlas checking center. With no explanation from the company, I can only assume that they are doing it because they're "going to show us who's boss now". Next, they'll be taking the sun visors from the cockpits ... because they can.

True asking those questions might not get you the job, and any pilot that asks them at an interview would have some big huevos. But don't you think this type of information needs to be put out on this forum for prospective wannabes to read and be informed about before they get to the interview?

My statement was tongue-in-cheek rather than in seriousness. Sarcasm doesn't translate through electronic communications. I think anyone reading these forums should be as informed as possible before they walk into what is going on here.

I know there are 1-2 guys in that class with really bad reputations from their previous airlines, they were captains everyone tried to avoid. With a few super negative types around I am sure a bad tone was set in the classroom at some point.

Training is self taught but not presented this way, leaving you directionless and disorganized ESPECIALLY after a horrendous week of "systems training class". You spend 45 hrs on CBTs when everyone preaches Vol 2 FCOM for the Oral exam. (which btw IS highly suggested if you come through training).

When I went through training... There seemed to be a divide in the training department between old school and new school and new school is definitely getting rid of "problem" instructors one by one. All I can say is that their ammo for accomplishing this is to FILL OUT YOUR TRAINING CRITIQUE (which is sanitized by the union) at the end. They seem to be positioning themselves for AQP but boy is that still far out.

Other than that, keep your head down, shut your mouth, cooperate, stay off the radar, and graduate. You will pass. This isnt Kalitta training.

And god have mercy on any soul that goes to ask scheduling dept for a change in their sim schedule.

Ciao
This pretty much sums up the experience of the 2/22/2016 class and why we complained about the training and were subsequently chewed out. There is no real systems teaching or training. You are quite literally on your own.

Statistically, you will pass.
