The Southern CBA is f'n horrible-worse than most regionals including Mesa. I hope negotiations do not take "years". What a freakin train wreck! I am not 100% sure about this latest Union message; is this really going on, and if so, then VERY scary.

A friend of mine was sitting across the table when this happened. It is really going on.

I'd say 2 years at a minimum but 3-4 years is likely. So long as airplanes keep moving and classes are filling up nothing will change (both of which are happening to the delight of management) Atlas is not a legacy carrier but it's far better than a regional or some awful charter gig. If legacies are considered the "Majors" then Atlas is a Minor league team. Some folks are content with that status and all that comes with it, and those are the individuals that HR will continue to recruit.

What the deal with management going into classrooms and threatening the new hires? Calling them "at will employees" and what not...

When did this happen? Recently? They were very cordial in my class back in Sept. But maybe things have changed already in the school house.

Atlas mgmt, as well as other mgmt teams, and a LOT of pilots have not realized how bad this pilot shortage is becoming. We are only at the edge of a huge tsunami. Atlas has gotten less interest, and less resumes at the job fairs, but it hasn't affected recruiting numbers much...yet.

DAL and UAL are thinking about ab-initio training programs. Atlas mgmt doesn't even know what ab-initio hiring is, and they wouldn't understand why DAL/UAL are considering it. Jetblue started ab-initio hiring programs in Jan 2016.

This was just posted on another thread:

"Spot on about foreign students. I am working on my cfi at a large school in Florida. Out of 400ish students there was only ONE other person in my Cfi ground school. ONE. Every flight school that I know of down here with the exception of mom and pop places are all 95% foreign (mostly Chinese) students. There are just no domestic people starting training. This shortage is going to quickly get much much worse. I have no idea where all these new pilots are supposed to come from. From my viewpoint they just don't exist."

And yet, hr turns down very qualified and experienced people. Obviously there is no shortage....

It's a trickle-up shortage. First it was Cape Air and the likes, now regionals. Majors next, but likely a ways off. Ab- Initio is a smart pre-emptive move, albeit a little insensitive to announce when several qualified and eager applicants aren't getting interviews. But then again, that is a four-year training footprint.

Hi! And then Atlas HR hires MIL dudes that can't find anything better in the states so they go into the YIP vortex and manage to get fired from that. So they have to go to Africa and fly who knows what around and then they show up at Atlas. Yet Atlas turns down guys with spotless records and impressive resumes.
