And next question, can one of the on-line pilots she come light on what the company policy is on facial hair? It seems intelligent to show up for an interview already abiding by the policy. I need to know if I have to lose the mustache. (the wife will be delighted)

When Atlas called me in January of 11, I was commuting to work. She left a message and a call back number. I waited until I was at the layover hotel (the following morning with a late show) to return the call. I left her a message and she called back within an hour to conduct the phone interview. I'd say it's fairly common to not be able to reach someone on the first try.

Apparently, Atlas has decided to trust the applicants to be honest with the logbooks and allow the resume review to weed out any obvious fraudulent wannabes. The emphasis here seems to be on WHO they hire rather than WHAT they hire. I have been impressed with the amount of responsibility and independence they give to the pilots here. This is important to them because, even though they give you high tech PCD's to provide worldwide support, there are times (for instance) when you are deadheading solo on the far side of the world when you have to be able to think on your feet and deliver yourself to the next stop on time.
So, while they DO keep you in the dark as far as up to date info on where you are in the process (after all they have a very lean HR dept that concentrates only on putting the best applicants pilots into classes), the Atlas process works. From my perspective, they have done an outstanding job of weeding out the whiners and jerks and have hired some smart and great folks you enjoy spending time with whether on a layover or locked into the cockpit with on a 16 hour leg.

BTW: I think two of those personality traits they look for are patience and resourcefulness - things that served me well during the application and interview process...

Yeah, yeah...I get all that. In my post I never referred to Atlas specifically. I'll take your word that Atlas has done a great job so far.

MY POINT, is that if a company opens a window or application process for any position, in which you have to complete on-line processes or send information to them electronically, they should at minimum acknowledge that they have received what you submitted. The argument that there are only a few people in HR and thousands of applicants does not fly with the technology they have today. Everything could be sent to an email address that sends an automatic reply if it contains the proper subject line which could be directed to the applicant to do, etc., etc. Even with all this technology, things can go wrong and not work correctly. There are lots of emails and text messages that were supposedly sent to me that never made it.

With the process of trying to get a flying job being long and arduous anymore, starting the process out having NO idea if they have received your stuff is frustrating to say the least.

Excellent thanks for the response. Did you get hired or are you trying again?

Keep ya in the dark and base hiring on personality and psych test and BS HR questions instead of your experience, record and knowledge.
This is NOTHING new. Application processes were the exact same when I was looking at the majors from the outside from 1997-2000. United/Delta/Northwest/TWA/USAirways,etc. The only one I'm not sure about is American as that was the only place I could care less if I worked.

Nothing you can do about it but suck it up as there's no such thing and won't be such a thing as a pilot shortage. Play the game and enjoy. Consider it a hazing to get you through it. In other words, turn that frown upside down! LOL

I know that there are thousands for resumes being sent out. Has anybody sent a resume in daily? or do you think that would be to much and lessen your chances of getting a call.

Just pondering.

I agree with you 100%.....Auto Response goes a long way in at least letting one know that----at the very LEAST----the submission was recieved....
