I just finished wading through the 4000+ posts (great info BTW...). Are Letters of Recommendation needed in the application process? I see where the PAQ and Resume is sent in but no mention of LORs. I'm Air Force who is about to retire soon so sorry if this is a rookie question.

Not necessary..many folks have been hired without them. They do improve the odds, though. Understand... the process as now driven by HR is a mathematical exercise. A letter counts for X amount of points. Will it make the difference between being hired or not? Hard to say. It depends on what the score is for all the other things along the way.

Would all the people who have interviewed care to tell what their essay topic was. I understand it can be ANYTHING, and there is no way to really prepare for this, but I think it would be interesting to see some of the topics. Just a few of the topics Ive heard are: NOTAMs, PRM, ADS. Enquiring minds want to know.
What in sam hill is PRM?....and ADS?

That being said, how do you get Letters of Rec into the system? Do you have to make it past the phone interview/Tech test first? Attach them with your resume?

The LOR is a separate stream that the current Atlas pilot uses on our company web site, but the process now brings your PAQ (which has questions asking you if you have a sponsor) and the LOR together. This allows the HR folks to review your resume/PAQ and use the LOR to elevate your application closer to the top of the pile for possible next step.
An LOR can be sent in at any time by a friend and the system in place is sophisticated enough (!!) to still be able to bring (match) the two documents.

Just to clarify, all three versions that the PAQ have gone through don't mention a sponsor specifically. It only mentions if the applicant knows anybody at Atlas and what they're job titles are.
