I've spent 30 days in Dubai, but six months in Abu Dhabi, living downtown on the economy. I prefer Abu Dhabi, a really great place actually. Like they plonked a European city's worth of people down in the middle of the desert.

I too can think of a lot worse places to live too! Kabul anyone?

Check out the link below...could expand your horizons a bit. Sorry, I couldn't resist...

.

Used to live there once. I wasn't bashing the place but wondering why or how someone who didn't work there want to live there by choice (residence visa etc). Met lots of great people there but all were there by necessity and looking for a way out. And thanks for the EK link... How is that relevant to an Atlas pilot living in DXB?

I guess if you have to ask why anyone would want to live anywhere else other than the USA, then I guess you don't get it...

Just amazed...but I guess I'm not surprised. Over and out...

Never said anything about living anywhere other the USA! So maybe it's you that needs to broaden your horizons a little. My point was about living in DXB without a work/residence visa. Unless you do a visa run or pay for an investor visa etc it would be hard to just live there by choice. That is why I was surprised to hear some pilots live there. Sorry you misinterpreted that as having a narrow mind. (and sorry for not elaborating my initial query).

Over and out chief!

Correct me if I'm wrong folks, but I believe Atlas requires US citizenship due to the DOD flying.

Having U.S. citizenship and living abroad can happen concurrently.

Many other ACMI's that have DOD contracts have U.S. citizen pilots that live abroad.
