It's been almost 4 years since I did new hire training. Travel and expense to MIA was the responsibility of the new hire. I don't know if that has changed.

I chose to drive my car all the way from MN. I wanted wheels and freedom. I was reimbursed for mileage, but only for the return trip to my home. Frankly, I was in the minority maybe one or two other people did the same.

I wanted the ability to get away from the hotel. You can have a life during training and study, too.

As mentioned, doing the voice notes for the pre-flights and flows is amazing. In creating the voice notes speak slightly slower than the pace you will go at allowing yourself to get to the next item and identify what you are looking for before your voice catches up. Spending some time in the evenings early in training will pay off big later. Ask the schedulers when the fixed base trainer (paper tiger) isn't being used and get in there when you can with your sim partner.
Write your memory items and tougher limitations on the hotel mirror with dry erase pens and go over them when you are shaving (or putting on makeup) and getting ready in the am.

Have Fun!

Keep in mind per diem is paid out a month in arrears. In other words, your Feb per diem is paid at the end of March, so don't count on seeing it until you're almost complete with training.

Award 2014-1 is out. For FNG's, 36 slots on the 747 in ANC, and 10 slots on the 767 in CVG. This should give you some insight on the future hiring, good luck to those in the pool and welcome to the "world of change" to the guys/gals that go the call for a class.

In anticipation of a phone call some time, has the phone interview changed at all? Or is there a new screening system of questions they ask? Thanks!

Oh that's fine. After 19 years of the Air Force pay and travel system I can totally live with that. So long as it comes in eventually to help offset the cost, that's just fine with me.

Fidelity.

There is the usual collection of mutual funds. However there is also a brokerage link option that gives you a full brokerage account within the 401k, so you can hold stocks, bonds, ETFs, almost any mutual fund and use conservative options strategies.
Thank you for the info.

On a side note, do any of you guys subscribe to the EPP (medical HMO) plan? Is that like a kaiser type deal? How does that work? Thanks.
