I was based CVG, typically flew in 1-day prior to all patterns and got home on the last day of my pattern. I am now at JFK, very junior, and typically travel on patterned work days, NOT X days (scheduled days off). Schedules change a lot. So YMMV. I personally intend to avoid ANC if at all possible.

Great post V. Spot-on. Do your homework and take an honest look at how this place compares to your other options.

If you are under 40 with any airline experience, stay in your present job and just wait for the majors to call you.

Question Base Bids

As the 767 seat locks expire, would new-hire FO's currently on 747 ANC theoretically be able to bid to the 767 JFK? Some may be willing to trade the QOL for the $$.

As long as you aren't bound by any sort of contractual seat lock you can bid for anything. Getting it depends upon your seniority vs the others bidding for the same thing and whether there are openings available for what you're bidding. In other words, you can't bump anyone out of a position (unless your current base or airplane is being done away with) but if there's a slot open it's up for grabs.

Any thoughts on this?
Last word that I heard was that it will not result in any position loss in a domicile but will be instead filled with movement. In other words, an FO from JFK goes to PAE, JFK will have an open position to be fill with a current 747 FO and the leftover will go to a new hire.

But, that's what has been said, whether it will be like that in the end remains to be seen. The Union talked to mgmt about our poolies and how they should be removed and put in a class before the most recent interviewees are placed in a class but that doesn't seem to be working out as advertised either.

A 747 FO can't bid lower-paying equipment until the 3-year seat lock expires. A 767 FO, however, could bid up if, say, the 777 ever shows up.

So, are new hires in the 747 under a three year seat lock? Reason I am asking is a previous post seemed to indicate you could bid for a 767 position (if a vacancy exists, of course) but your response now leads me to believe a 747 new hire is bound by a seat lock.

Default Class sizes

Anyone have info on the size of the 5/19 and/or 6/9 new hire classes?

05/19 class, I think I counted eleven. World, Military, and at least one Expressjet. There was also an EK guy. Several seemed to be from ANC.

Yes, captainv was referring to a caveat to seat locks if new equipment is introduced into the mix. For all practical purposes, there is a 3-year seat lock.
