As long as you aren't bound by any sort of contractual seat lock you can bid for anything. Getting it depends upon your seniority vs the others bidding for the same thing and whether there are openings available for what you're bidding. In other words, you can't bump anyone out of a position (unless your current base or airplane is being done away with) but if there's a slot open it's up for grabs.

Anybody have any insight on what kind of movement they think we will have amongst the bases with the opening of the base at Paine Field? I wanna say its 15 CA and 20 FOs... Also, the announcement didn't address if other bases would shrink or if this is essentially an expansion. Bid closes on 31st with results due out by 15 June from what I remember. Any thoughts on this?
But, that's what has been said, whether it will be like that in the end remains to be seen. The Union talked to mgmt about our poolies and how they should be removed and put in a class before the most recent interviewees are placed in a class but that doesn't seem to be working out as advertised either.

A 747 FO can't bid lower-paying equipment until the 3-year seat lock expires. A 767 FO, however, could bid up if, say, the 777 ever shows up.

So, are new hires in the 747 under a three year seat lock? Reason I am asking is a previous post seemed to indicate you could bid for a 767 position (if a vacancy exists, of course) but your response now leads me to believe a 747 new hire is bound by a seat lock.

Yes, captainv was referring to a caveat to seat locks if new equipment is introduced into the mix. For all practical purposes, there is a 3-year seat lock.

Every one is under a three-year seat lock for equipment, not crew base. I recently said I'd love for anyone who is called in the next few months for the 747 to say they'd prefer to wait for a 767 class instead - was that what you meant?

ESPECIALLY when the hiring was a little more fast paced. Pilot A, hired in one month, on the 767. Pilot B, hired the next month on the 744. For years 2 and 3, pilot B out earns pilot A, and Pilot A can do NOTHING ABOUT IT.
Probably just another typical case of airline pilot senioritis. "I'm senior, won't affect me, so whatever", etc.
