Even if they still picked the x-Delta guy at least they would have done the politically correct thing of interviewing candidates. But instead bring in this guy (not saying he's not qualified) who hasn't seen ACMI/CMI non-scheduled ops. Kinda of a kick in the groin when they are wanting cooperation, don't ya think?
100% correct! I'm sick of emails announcing new mgmt positions and the latest one was out of left field. I had to read it twice.

Saw a Southern 777 in one of our spots at the ACP in ANC today. A sign of things to come?

Southern has always used those spots as long as its a DHL flight. The only flights using ACP is Polar and Atlas flights. The Qantas flights use the Romeo spots.

Yeah, been here for a bit over a year and haven't seen Southern there. But it makes sense for the DHL stuff. Still, wouldn't be surprised to see more triple 7's up there in the near future.

Lots of people are saying "the 767 will be the junior airplane from now on". It's true that soon most newhires will go to the 767, but won't that be temporary? There are 83 767 FOs right now. As their locks expire over the next year there will be 8 classes of 767 newhires to replace them. And then newhires will go to the 747 again. (And those 767 FOs will be stuck in their locks for 3 years, again. While junior newhires go to the 747).

Why would this hiring be any different than it was 3 years ago?

I think between retirements and attrition it's reasonable to expect at least 80 newhires will be needed every year. We're hiring at least that many this year.

Kalitta 74s parks at ACP as well if it's a DHL flight.

I think the most pilots we had on the seniority list was a couple of years ago at about 1200...and now we have about 1000...we're down a few since Jan.

In Oct. 2011, we had 862 pilots, according to vacancy bid 2011-3.

High-water mark was 1029 in June 2013 (2013-4).

Since then, we've been right about 1,000 +/- a handful.

Check. Since I've been here. Minimal overall shift in total.
