I think we are over all of that.
Performance counts. Nothing else. Whatever the past is, is the past.
What I see now is out-right favoritism to -at times- under qualified applicants who get a leg up on higher qualified candidates due to reverse discrimination. The people who exist in this generation have nothing to do with 1609, or 1961.
If we as a people are to get past discrimination, we need to end it in all forms, and that includes on the job application. I see it in many professions. Out-right favoritism due to someone's roots.

I'm not saying that an under qualified applicant should get on board before a qualified one, but I am saying that there is a valid and current reason these organizations exist.
I'm not saying that the current pay to play deal is ideal, or right, but I am discouraged by the number of people here who choose to crap on the good work these organizations do outside of job fairs.
And, I hate to say it... but if the only thing you get out of a job fair is some face time with a bored HR recruiter, you are doing networking wrong.

What a great development!

Now were getting to the heart of the issue. You are right...pay to play is just plain wrong. But we've gotta get this industry to the point where you get what you earn and earn what you get.
Anything else is one form of favoritism. Or, it's one form of discrimination. Or, it's one form of (fill in the blank).
These organizations exist for what? I am fine with organizations that hope to motivate, educate, and inspire. But, now these organizations are hell bent at pushing an agenda, often times, using the industry to push a political agenda.
That's why we either need to recognize whats going on and deal with it, or we need to empower other organizations to step up and dilute their influence.
If there can be a 99's, or a NGPA, or an OBAP, then there needs to also be a Jewish pilots Association, and a Cajun Pilots Association, and others.
To me the special interest groups are more than just lobby groups, now they push their agenda's all over the place.

I tell my kids you gotta make it happen. No one will give you anything. If kids start getting that when they are young, then they will be accustomed to that for their entire lifetime.
