Two weeks of classroom indoc at HQ done in house, followed by a week of systems and sim down at flight safety ICT. Checkride and oral in the SIM. All Fs stuff is FS folks. Back to the line for a week of company in aircraft training followed by a second oral and check ride in the airplane. Final step is another week or so of OE.
Rate it? Standard 135 ops, except for exposure to two check rides in two weeks, that’s kind of an outlier in the industry, at least in my experience.

What runs could one expect being based in PDX or SEA on the Caravan?

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but if you are a PDX based Caravan pilot but live on the Washington side of the border, do you still have Oregon state income tax taken out?
From my understanding Part 121 guys who work for Horizon, SkyWest, etc… and do that are not subject to Oregon state income tax, but it seems like that may not be the case for a Part 135 operation.

The type of certificate doesn't matter. It is based on your schedule. If you are flying from PDX to mostly other destinations in Oregon you will be liable for the state income tax. Most 121 pilots do not spend more than 50% of their time in their domicile state.

On another note, does Empire provide some sort of crew car at the out stations? I’ve seen on these forums people talk about pilots going hiking, golfing, running, etc… on the downtime between flights, and Empire’s own social media advertises pilots going paddle boarding and fishing on their layover.
Just curious how these people are getting to these activities.

Makes sense, appreciate the info. Probably still worth it to live north of the border for slightly lower cost of living and pumping your own gas.

Thanks, that is good to know.
One more question, is the 50 hours actual instrument time a non-negotiable requirement? I currently teach in SoCal so actual IMC is hard to come by, and most of my hours are teaching in an aircraft that can’t go in IMC (Rotax) so instrument students and my own time building are all under the hood.

Posted earlier in the older thread...having a read here and checking into the current conditions at Empire.
Thanks in advance for any info.....How is the current climate? Same mgmt team or is it still flipping every few months? From this thread, looks like QOL has come up a lot since '15-'17.
I've noticed they have several openings for ATR Captains, for which I'm qualified and considering applying for. Wondering if anyone has information about the ATR schedules (times) for the following cities:
KMSO (Missoula, MT)
KBZN (Boseman, MT)
KICT (Wichita, KA)
KMAF (Midland, TX)
All four are commutable for me...and I do know that MAF is a back side of the clock, or used to be, anyway. Are home based or roamer positions still available? Can't tell from the Empire site (or I missed it)
Grazie

The QOL for the ATR side is alot better than it was in '15-'17, currently we are only down 4 or 5 pilots from a full staff. The QOL on the C208 side is suffering due to alot of pilots going to regionals all at once.
As for schedules (from what I remember):
MSO: Depart MSO around 1800 arrive GTF around 1900 go to hotel/sleep Depart GTF around 0800 arrive MSO around 0900
BZN: Depart BZN around 1815 arrive GTF around 1915 go to hotel/sleep Depart GTF around 0830 arrive BZN around 0930
ICT: Depart ICT around 2300 arrive AFW around 0030; Depart AFW around 0430 arrive ICY around 0600
MAF: Depart MAF around 2000 arrive LBB around 2100 go to hotel/sleep Depart LBB around 0800 arrive MAF around 0845
As for commutable, it is difficult to make a direct base commutable... it can be done, but it is difficult. As for HomeBased positions, I have not seen any open Homebased positions since 2020 (we get a weekly email with openings).

The current climate is good. Currently very busy, every aircraft we have is being utilized. The Management team has been constant for several years... like anyplace you will always have some turnover.

Do you know if they will have any ATR FO positions open anytime soon? Specifically TUL or MAF?
