Good job keeping everyone in the loop. I'm still fuzzy on her statement that this rule change will not apply to those who have attained 60 before the rule takes effect. Does that mean the the over 60/under 65 crowd plumbing on the 10 (and the masochists doing the same on the 727) will be frozen out of returning to the left seat. As stated, it would seem to give the company the legal ability to keep them in their seat and avoid paying passover pay. I'm sure some of the "Pilot Lounge Lawyers" will see it differently, but the final wording will be interesting. The devil is in the details.

AA,
On the surface, that's exactly how I interpret what she said. The thing that I find interesting is why she would have even made that statement to begin with. Of all the airlines that I know of, UPS, FedEx, NWA, and and maybe some of the other freight companies are the only ones to have guys who will be in the position of having already reached 60 and are still "working." That's such a small percentage of guys who will be effected by that part of the rule, it makes me wonder why it was even addressed?

I think it's simple.
If they allow anyone that's over age 60 at the time the rule goes into effect(i.e. over 60 F/E's) to go back to a front seat, all the lawsuits that are going to follow from the already retired guys, would have that much more validity. Whether they worked for an airline that has F/E's or not.

I don't think so because in the initial proposal, there was a statement that said that someone whose already left the property would have no legal recourse in getting their job back. For airlines without 3 seat jets, it seems those guys would be out of luck.

Several years back, I remember reading that FS and then CEO of DAL had a closed door meeting with Senator McCain concerning the age 60 rule. My guess at the time was that a rule change would be a windfall for the Corporations due to the immediate overfunding of pilot pension plans the day the change takes effect. DAL is now a non-issue, but I'd bet FS has at least some input, if not direct influence. Big business IS gov't....it's just the way our nation works.

Jetjok,
Even though the "over 60 F/E's are a small percentage" in the overall industry, allowing them to return to a front seat would create havoc throughout the FedEx senority system bumping guys/gals back........
Like I mentioned before, I believe this over 60 push is an attack on our seniority system.

How about if you were hired during the age 60 era, you can still fly front seat over 60(even if you're already in the back seat)...you even get preferential hiring at your current carrier.
Win-win. Over 60 guys get to still fly, make more money than they expected to their whole lives and it doesn't screw up our system.

repost by me...
I see a lot of speculation on this...this is what i am hearing now...the ATA has made it clear that they do not favor anyone who is already in the FE seat to reupgrade to captain..the airlines do not want to pay for that...it has been agreed upon already...as u will see...i know someone who attended these meetings ( i think ARAC meetings)...once u hit 60 u r done..unless of course the rule has changed...their will be no waivers as well...sorry foxhunter
