FWIW the junior 767 captain award at ABX currently is a 3/2020 hire. Like the musical chairs reference you want to try to be in the chair you are willing to sit in for 20 years if the next downswing hits and it eventually will. My first 18 years on this ride, included two furloughs interspersed with periods a great movement. Ebb and flow is the name of the game. Good luck whatever your choice. Never choose the option you can not live with if that’s your chair for awhile.

Anything new at ABX with the company growth and aircraft additions? Any talk of expanding the flying or adding more routes?

Nothing new. All six of the new tails are DHL - two newly leased by DHL, and the other four currently or formerly operated by Kalitta for DHL, so they come with DHL cities attached to them. I'm not certain what all of those are now.

So on the question of new tails, I saw this in American Shipper today in an article discussing Maersk's deal with Amerijet to run some 763 factory-Fs that Maersk just bought from Boeing (that had been destined for a Chinese operator and not taken up).

"In November [Maersk] engaged Wilmington, Ohio-based Air Transport Services Group (NASDAQ: ATSG) to provide and operate three 767-300 freighters under a long-term lease. An ATSG subsidiary is expected to begin carrying out dedicated transport for Maersk on key U.S.-China routes in the second half of this year."

I haven't heard anything about which carrier will be operating these tails; sounds like some fun work if ABX can get them.

Interesting. In the most recent operations update a few days ago, there was a reference to more airplanes coming. One might have reasonably assumed that was referring to the ones coming from Kalitta before the end of the year. Maybe it's more than that.

Operating in/out of China is so far from "fun" it's hard to even describe.

Unless of course your idea of fun is doing walkarounds wearing a full hazmat suit, being locked inside a hotel room with a guard outside and only eating the "food" they provide, being arrested and put to prison for 2 weeks for a false positive test that they mandate, and allowing the Chinese government a huge chunk of access to your personal history in the visa application process.
And I haven't even started talking about the Chinese ATC...

They’ll be operated by Amerijet. https://www.freightwaves.com/news/ma...argo-expansion

The Amerijet deal represents Maersk’s second initiative to access the U.S. market. Honestly, I hope ABXs work rules are good with how China is these days. Better pay a huge premium for that garbage when you dont have proper rest facilities on board.
