Hmmm. The whole thing happened in a 40 minute period and I've had almost no experience with being bumped. I've been trying to decipher the CBA to figure out what my best options are/were. I'm not really even sure what status I entered or left during that time. If I was given a RAT, does that pay at 125%? Here are my crew notification messages....is the third message a RAT? Since the trip number hasn't changed, I'm not sure if I've technically been reassigned.

Hey Rock, this looks similar to the 3 crew notifications I received a couple months ago. From the crew notifications it appears you were removed, went into sub and then were assigned your original trip with a change significant enough to have removed you in the first place. This should be a RAT trip for you which, under the new agreement, pays 125%. However the extra 25% won't be added to your pay until the trip is completed. In other words if you went sick you would only get the original value of the trip. You have to block out and fly the trip to get the extra. If you look at that pairing you should see RAT to the left of your employee number under the ASG column. Something like this.....F/O RAT 2XXXXX KONAN, BLODRY

Thanks a lot for the clarification. I've never been good with small print. Sounds like I stumbled into a pretty good deal. Wish I could do the same in the stock market.

SECTION 4
MINIMUM GUARANTEES AND OTHER PAY PROVISIONS
F. Trip Guarantee
1. A pilot's trip guarantee shall be the scheduled credit hour (SCH) value of the trip when the trip is awarded/assigned to the pilot (e.g., bid award, trip trade, open time assignment) or when the pilot blocks out on the trip, whichever is greater.

If your name's on the trip, it's yours. If they take you off of it because of their mistake, they still must pay you. At least that's my read of the contract. I'd definitely get contact enforcement involved, though.
Here's what Bill McD. sent me:

sometimes the better deal can be to turn down the RAT and stay in Sub and hope for no trip

They FRZ the trip until you answer yes or no on RAT

In his case it wouldn't. Trip pays 58 and change and the 25% override on that is 14.5 hours of extra pay x $160 = $2320 of additional compensation he would turn down hoping that Crew Scheds doesn't use him for a whipping boy for the next 10 days.

They haven't frozen his trip. When he hit "acknowledge" on his crew notifications he "accepted" the trip. If you read the 3 crew notifications he was removed, put in SUB, and then subsequently assigned the RAT trip. I've had the same scenario and I didn't do anything except hit the "acknowledge" button.

Now having said that, I do have one point of contention with what I call malicious code used on our web site concerning crew notifications. When you recieve a crew notification and click on it, you cannot do anything else on the website until you hit "acknowledge." Even if you log off the website and log back in, you will be taken immediately to the "acknowledge" screen. You can't look at the trip, you can't do anything. You are held hostage until you hit "acknowledge." I have discussed this with crew scheduling and ACP's and while the crew scheds supervisor agreed with me, nothing has been done. If you click on "acknowledge" you technically have accepted the trip in accordance with the CBA. I had this happen once on a SUB assignment when I wasn't even eligible for a SUB trip (I had been released for the day) and I had to get the duty officer and the union to resolve it. The crew scheds gal kept reciting chapter and verse of the CBA to me since I hit the "acknowledge" button.

Hitting acknowledge is nothing more than stating that you have been notified of the trip assignment. It is not accepting the trip. If you are in Substitution you should call scheduling and tell them whether you want the trip or not.

I agree....but you have to make that phone call "somewhat immediately".

If they don't hear from you very soon, they assume your acknowlegement is your acceptance.

Or you could just not acknowledge the message, and make them call you.
