Predictions for the Purple Poolies

Whale...once aboard we'll be glad to send you a "proponent of hysteria" and "fringe element" decal. Apparently you are just another rabble rouser ready to cause trouble.
Pet peeve of the day: Captains generating revenue in Hong Kong don't get enough COLA to pay for even 50% of a nice apartment. MEC Chairman gets a housing allowance on top of his 98 credit hours a month so he can have a home in Memphis to work in while he crams over-60 retro language into the Obestar amendment and push guys to vote FOR this obviously demonstrated substandard LOA.
How do you justify saying a guy in China should "suck it up" from the company but we as union members owe a house to someone working against our interests?
2% of my salary is jack. As another pointed out--right not I just consider a cost of doing business. The irony, however, it biting...

OK How's this, I will send one horrible ex wife and my monster in law to stay with DW along with 4 routy kids.... LOL He can care for them on my behalf since he is enjoying the "fringe" benefit that should be going to those sucking up all the pollution! Haaaa!
(P.S. I don't have 4 kids but I do have an ex and a ex mother in law that is certified to fly a broom)
And by the way, I will be glad to take the stickers --thank you very much! Let me know what I can do to help the cause!!!

Whale -- my prediction is a phone call real soon. Say around the 20th although they may wait until after Thanksgiving. My info is that a certain guy who types with quotes "OR" told a group today that they have 25 in the pool and expect to have to hire 30 total to fill the 2 FDA's. I think the 30 is low although who knows what the difference between PB 3 and the real thing is.
Also said no hiring for next 18-24 months otherwise I hear.
Best of luck to you.

Once married, your wife will be considered a "non-resident alien" (i.e. not a US citizen and not residing in the US); however, she may elect to be considered a "resident alien" for tax purposes, which will then allow you to file US taxes "jointly" (...which is typically cheaper for you than filing "single" or "Head of Household")
HOWEVER, when she makes this election she is opening up here "worldwide income" to US taxes --- but she should then be able to claim the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion because she is not residing in the US.
Not sure you will get any straight answers from anyone until you actually "live it" the first year and file your taxes.
Good luck!!

Albief15 "2% of my salasry is jack...It's just the cost of doing business."
Well, friend, it may just be "Jack" to you, but over $2,000 is a lot of money to me, particularly when it goes to pay for substandard performance! If this is the "cost of doing business" with ALPA, then ALPA ain't worth the price tag!!!!

Keep it in perspective
I may not be happy with some things right now, however...not being worth the price of membership? Now that statement is priceless.
I'm not one of those "It's more than what we had...so it's a good deal" guys.
But let's look at what your MEC got you.
Payrates,
Admittedly smaller than what we wanted....sorta retro
$800K in Insurance with a reasonable buy up instead of survivor's benefits...I could go on and on.
I was a big proponent of the old contract including VEBA. I suspect a lot of you griping about VEBA never read or understand it...kinda like the 68% LOA yes voters.
Emotional statements about it not being worth the price is what gets "us" branded with stupid terms like "Proponents of Hysteria". Like I used to say to "former non-members". If you don't want to be part of the union, then give back your scope payment, retro pay, pay-raise whatever.
If you got more than $2.00/hr on the last contract, then I would say you broke even. 'Cause you sure as he11 wouldn't have done it on your own. As for me, I got a 20/hr pay raise that I won't complain about having to pay the dues on. (and I'm not senior....)
Since it is such a burden....give me your raise....You can keep the rest of your benefits....I'll gladly pay the dues on it. I'll PM you with a routing number and account number.

What is not to understand about Veba? Two seperate $40 Million up front payouts (Plus a $.50/hr tax) to specific (past and present) members of the pilot group.
One chunk helps pilots past, present, and future when they reach medicare eligible age. Not a bad deal, looking forward to it assuming hillarycare dosen't make it moot.
The other chunk supposedly helps about (my guess) 25% of the crew force when they retire at 60 until they qualify for the other veba fund. Not a bad deal if the retire at 60 part is true, otherwise it is a rip off of the many to help the few.
And please don't say veba dosen't cost us anything.
