"However, recent unilateral actions by management have raised serious questions from a growing number of members considering these new bases, and the MEC is now compelled to take action."
I read this as "we don't see it as a problem, but since enough of you are complaining we'll pretend outrage and call the company on this"!
This so called good working relationship with the company should be based on mutual trust and respect and a desire for both parties to prosper. When one side is reaping all the benefits and pulling an end run around the other side that is not a "good working relationship". I would call that "getting used", but what do I know?

"The most recent example of your leadership’s commitment is a new LOA covering FDAs in Hong Kong and Paris.
You have got to be kidding me"
Your Leadership?????? Are you a non-member? Inquiring minds want to know.......

So the next move from the MEC is:
"Boys look at this great side letter we signed with the company for you".
Here is what we got you through our hard work:
$10,000 rental deposit
1,000 lbs for your move
Passover pay for widebody Captains to be instructors.
We worked hard to get this and determined the need for the rental deposit after another grueling trip to HKG and CDG by the negotiating committee.
No need for you guys to vote we know what is best for you and agreed to this in your best interests.

Ahh, and they called me a 'proponent of hysteria' and a 'fringe element.'
I love being right. This will suck for me though, if they put in a fair deal I'll never hold HKG CA!
I've never seen a bigger 'sell-out' maneuver in my life. Where I come from, if you make a mistake you better GD well own up to it, don't pass the buck. You suckers (including you 68%ers) caved to the first offer you got and now you want to get all ****y about it. Luckily there is language in the CBA that says you can't freely negotiate directly with the crew force, that gave you an out to cover your collective asses. Please just admit you ****ed up and all will be forgotten.
I hope for everyone's sake that the whole deal gets re-negged, it turns out equitable, and we all go on our merry way. I'll continue to volunteer for the union and happily get the clearance and ATIS.
Cheers!

Regardless of motivation, timing, or whatever, this is good to hear...unless you wanted that early HKG Captain upgrade, and were willing to take v1.0 to get it. Definitely moving in the right direction, for our collective body. To quote our future host nation, "...interesting times."

Yea members asking questions that are going unanswered, relocations company that answers questions like a politician, oh and the company still doesn't know were the pick up points will be in HKG(but they have several in mind) lot of good that does when your looking for a place to live. Gee lets just make the pick up point at the border crossing???

I think we all have some very strong thoughts about how the MEC got to this point; however, I am very thankful they finally "got here"...but, no premature celebrations yet.
We need to standby and see what they actually do --- demand a side letter, file a a formal grievance, somehow challenge the current bid process.
I would hope/suggest they try their best to seek input from union members at large --- once again, there are 4,700+ very bright pilots at FEDEX and it would behoove everyone if there was some mechanism for folks to provide input.
(p.s....and IMHO there is no need for any type of explicit apologies. Even in Memphis, as in Asia, there is a strong need to publicly "save face".)

I think one of the problems is that only two or three of the people they (mgt) want to work the 757 bid it. The rest of those selfish, "senior" LCA and Flexes have not bid the a/c exactly because there is no LOA for pay. They were not looking for the "sweatheart deal", they want it done correctly and by the CBA. Thus a new LOA for passover pay is needed. The vast majority of LCA's and Flexes are good union members and they also are not the most "senior" guys in the company. I guess you hit a nerve and yes I am one of those LCA's or Flexes and I am not in the top half of my bid pack.
