Can someone more intellectually astute than me please explain this new 3.75 trip rig. I thought I understood it until I say the avg BLGs for Jan. They're around 91 credit hours

Previous rig: 24 hour day / 4 (old trip rig) = 6 credit hours

New rig: 24 hour day / 3.75 = 6.4 credit hours

15 work days (5 week bid month) x 6.4 = 96 hours (approx)

Shouldn't the Avg BLG be somewhere around the 96 hour mark? How about the RLG? Would that not be affected as well?

I must not understand this. This was supposed to be another "gain" in our CBA..... A "pay raise" under a different name. I'm just not seeing it.

Average BLG stays relatively the same - you just have 1 or 2 more days off.

Look at pairing and find the TAFB. Divide this number by 3.75. Remember TAFB is in hours and minutes. This should get you close to the published trip guarantee for the trip.

If I am not mistaken, this doesn't come into play until your TAFB is over 52hrs...or so. I know it doesn't count for most of us junior, hub turners....read the fine print.

Are you sure about that? I see BKK trips that pay 6:24 with 24 hours TAFB in January. I also can't find anything about over 52 hours TAFB in section 4.F. of the contract.

Uh...I think you are mistaken. It doesn't come into play for some of the shorter trips (TAFB wise) because they are hard time trips and you are getting paid the higher block value. It doesn't come into play for a lot of the mid time trips because they too are hard time. It does come into play for the longer trips where you get descent layovers (fewer and fewer). The changes to over 8 capture are really uneven and benefit a small portion of the crew force at the expense of a better pay raise across the board for everyone.
There is a trip next month out of ANC that pays 86-ish hours. ANC-NRT is the first leg and NRT-ANC is the last. The rest of the time is spent doing 6 hub turns in Asia. The only gain under the contract is the 3.75 trip rig for what most would agree is a brutal trip. Another line is 93:xx for one extra day of work. It is an easy RFO trip with nice layovers in HNL-SYD-SFS-HKG. With the >8 capture, there is a bonus of 8+ hours that you will get after the fact...almost a 10% premium for doing a much easier job. Not very well thought out when our work rule changes benefit such a small group much more than they do the group as a whole. My 2 cents (which is actually now worth 2.133 cents with the trip rig change.)

Next contract should be the exact same as this one, except for across the board pay raises. I know, I know, my union speaks for me and it's not all about hourly pay rates! I've heard it all before. My MEC and the company said the same thing and we got hosed, the company outfoxed us. If we keep it the same next time around, at least we know what we're getting stuck with but we also KNOW our pay will increase. Junior and senior, across the board.

I don't know if you are calculating it correctly. Remember the Trip guarantee does capture the block hours above 10. It doesn't capture the hours between 8 and 10. Which is ridiculous. For example, MEM-KIX is 12+30. The trip guarantee captures the 2+30 above 10. After you fly the trip you will get an extra 2 hours of pay, not 4+30. And I thought this CBA was suppose to get rid of the ambiguity in the contract.
