I don't totally disagree with your sentiment, but here's the fact regarding the new jet.
Yes, they got a new jet, but they traded in the oldest, most unreliable one, one that they bought used several years ago.
And 'luxury' is a relative term. It may be luxurious compared to what we're used to flying on (cattle cars), but they are positively spartan compared to the average corporate jet.

In a properly run flight department, a corporate aircraft saves a company money.

Bingo, bingo, and.....right on the money. For us to give anything up is plain stupid. The sky isnt really falling. They just want to make it seem so. A false flag operation!

Not to be argumentative, but a good friend is a bean counter at Fedex Corp. A large part of his compensation package is bonuses, which he says will be non-existent for awhile.

Guys, FedEx can afford a new jet. And they can afford to pay us what we deserve in terms of revenue generated. In case you haven't noticed, there is a calculator on the ALPA website so you can make your own decision about our company's position in this economic environment. Log in, go to FDX MEC, Commitees, Negotiations, and you'll find it.

Cheers,
Phlyer

I flew corporate for years. They save the expense of paying people to travel in the airline system. Imagine the hourly rate for a corporate attorney, or a good architect, or an MBA. Then there are the airline tickets. When I flew Citations we could usually beat the airlines if 4 or more people were going, sometimes less.

You actually think that Fedex pays for those jets as some kind of perk? N1FE maybe, but not the rest of them.

So if I'm reading the contract right the company will be doling out a whole lot of $$ for relocation packages based on excesses. To start with there were about 8 guys or so that came to LA - if those guys choose to buy a house within 100 miles of LAX they get a very nice relocation package - #1 - could be worth $50K-$100K depending on if they use the third party house purchase. I suspect this will happen again in the future with add'l postings as well? All those ANC guys that get excessed to MEM are in for a pretty good deal as I read it - up to 6 points on the sell of their house, another about 1.5 pts for the purchase of a new house, $10000 seed money, 7 round trip airfare, goods move, etc. etc. I'm sure they've factored that in but you move out 30 purple nuggets (this is probably a conservative number) and you could be talking about $3million - are my numbers off?

After all the training and relocation costs the company will have the same number of WB crews after as before this nut fest of bids. Maybe more.

It's not about saving WB salary. In fact, the WB pilots will have a higher average hourly rate, more vacation and will call in sick more often. And what about flights with 2 over 60 dudes? This will be expensive. There is no covering of relocation costs.

BTW--It's also not about killing 727 SO passover pay. That just offsets some of the costs involved.

It's all about trying to get the FDA filled. Say it with me now....
