Yup. However, I just called in "well". Had 10 r-a days left and did not get docked any sick hours. As mentioned in a previous post, if my wife is unable to(rare occurence) hold down the fort, I.E her mom is in the hospital-again(with 4 freekin tubes in and out her tiny body- (this is still happening)) and one of my kids is pukin their own weight-- Im callin in sick. Fedex has always been very sympathetic to these needs. They have never called me to ask why, I've just called in sick when needed and called in well when i'm ready to fly.

A flight manager says this about that:

"All, we have recently had two crewmembers go sick upon assignment of a reserve trip. This results in an Irregularity Report addressed to the System Chief pilot on down and becomes a part of your record. In the future it will also result in an Advisory Letter. This is not a new policy but one that has been in effect everywhere else in the system for some time. Of course there are circumstances that arise and we are always open to discuss those on a case by case basis. Contact me if you have any questions regarding this policy."

If I feel sniffly then suddenly realize I can't clear my ears, I'm sick. No amount of threats or intimidation will change the facts. If this happens when I'm called for a trip, so be it.

You should always conduct yourself as if it is on a case by case basis. If you can't explain your situation to the ACP or to union legal counsel, then you may be doing something wrong.

Some of our union leadership have the most to answer for. I would not sweat it.

Last September/October (can't remember when) I called in sick for a reserve trip within four hours of show. I sent a lengthly explanation (which I did NOT have to do) to my then ACP immediately after I did it explaining why I called in sick and what was going on and I got no response. It would be ironic if this was held against me sometime in the future when my ACP at the time didn't even think it was important enough to respond. Would've like at least something from him...anything from a "don't worry about it..." to "show me a doctor's note..." to "this is going in your record..." Got nothing.

In a previous lifetime (piston freight), my CP asked me to do him one favor. If I encountered or expected any irregularity, he asked me to drop him a voicemail or an email briefing him on what had happened. This prevented him from looking like a buffoon in his morning meeting the following day. I always made it a point to extend to him this courtesy and as a result, I never had any issues whatsoever. I held on to this practice and have applied it to every job I have had since. It has worked like a charm all the way. If you don't give your ACP any fecal matter to fling, he can't fling it. Thus you never have to worry about anything rolling downhill.
