Excess BID........(S)

You should absolutely bid another aircraft in another domicile if you are excess ed. It is the only way to keep from getting completely hosed. If you are a capt and bid the right seat of the same aircraft, standby for a 2 week sim/ioe and poof there you are. Just do not bid HKG FO (they are looking for guys who will blink) that is what this is all about. We work for a smarter company than this so don't panic and use the CBA to your advantage. I have a house that I would love for them to buy from me.

If they're hoping the junior will continue to bid HKG, then they're not very smart....if you were junior, would you drop everything here in the US and move to HKG, with the threat of being furloughed? "Sorry, you lost your job, good luck in getting back to the US..."
I think not. My bet is no more takers for HKG.

I have no idea how any excess bids will play out, nor do I have any inside info or gouge beyond what any of you guys do.
However, in January several pro Instructors and a corporate guy came up on their 3 year service obligation. They were told they would NOT be going to HKG if they came to the line but instead would go to the back of the 727. They were told the reason for that was in the event of a furlough or displacement the company did not want to move them.
I won't speculate on where guys might go yet, but this is a good time to get the contract out and understand what options are available. If you have questions, call the ALPA office and talk to the contract guys. If you don't get the help you need contact your rep and we'll try to get you the straight answers. Again--I'm not trying to blow you off by sending you to experts first, I just want everyone to get the most accurate and complete information. I'm learning more and more about the contract all the time, but I still won't say I am anywhere near an expert.

They pay the Realtor fees when selling the old house and buying the new house, moving costs, I think a couple of tickets for your spouse so you can go out and look for a house, etc. There were some other things in there too but I can't remember now.
Last month I talked to a guy who moved to ANC about a year ago. He said his entire moving package cost the company about $50K. If he has to move back to Louisville (if he gets displaced to the panel) he thought he'd be on his own if the house brings in less than it cost. Fortunately, he said the housing market in ANC hasn't been affected as much as in other parts of the country...
That's why I was wondering how Purple handles this since we''re in a very unique situation when it comes to property values...

I think if your house isn't sold after 2 months on the market, then they (FDX) hire 2 appraisers and get two appraisals. If they are within 50k of eachother then it's a done deal.
And I'm sure the appraisers will do a great job in your favor....
