Whatever brownie! Anyone that is never home cuz they work all the time while in the meantime, someone else is enjoying all their toys is IMO a moron.

Brownie,
I think freightpuppy's point was that "all work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy."
If some ANC FO is making $340K, which I highly doubt, then he probably doesn't have a life. No time for family, no time for friends....basically, no time for anything but work. A sad existence IMHO, but to each his own.

When fleets are retired (727, 747, DC8) one after the other, our contract requires that the crews that are displaced can choose to go where their seniority allows. I’m sure UPS would have preferred to just put us where it would have worked out best for them. Unfortunate for them, but there is really no way around it. Of course, if they would have thought of this before they opened up the ANC domicile, it would have worked out much better, I think. Water under the bridge…

One more thing, to make a point. UPS did not displace anyone from ANC. They displaced mostly guys on dying fleets from SDF. It was those displacees who then displaced their union brothers from ANC... I hope you don't take it out on them (forever)

As someone who has possibly a better grasp on the numbers than manpower planning, do you think the furlough will be mitigated (or are 50-100 of us hitting the street in Sept regardless of what agreements are made between UPS/IPA)? Not asking for a legal guarentee, just your best estimated guess based on what you know/think. Thanks.

I wish I had some insight on what will happen, but I do not. The three most important things are economy, economy, and economy...
One guess I will make is that the DC8 will be gone after peak, if it lasts that long. At the moment, we have only 11 in the "active" fleet. Nine are in GSO for repair assessments, and the rest are in ROW. UPS has said they have 10 spare 757's. We are scheduled to get a 767 in the summer and another in the fall. Maybe a couple of 747's before the year is out, and five more 767's through July of next year. It is possible that the new aircraft could be delayed, I have been told.
Another factor is all the people in training and its effect on manning. Most of the training should be done in the fall. However, if the aircraft shuffles from the paragraph above take place, there will be another boatload of training to follow.
I'm anxiously awaiting news from the ongoing UPS/IPA discussions.
There is just too much going on now and too many unknowns, not only for us, but also for UPS. They typically hold their cards as long as they can before making a decision. Hope this helps a little.

Sorry, been flying my full aircraft this week. Like many other airlines, UPS could give a **** what happens to their employees. Yes they followed the contract with the displacements, but it did not have to go down like it did. Ask ANYONE in the union and you would have seen that. The union had several alternative plans for the past few displacements that would have disrupted less lives than it actually did. So in my view, YES, there were other ways around it!

I know I'm splitting hairs here, but if you talk to anyone in the union, these 757 pulldowns are actually an annual pulldown. This supposedly happens every year. Except this year, they are spinning it to be a pulldown because of volume, not the normal annual pulldown.

The thing that kills me is that this company is ruthless. To displace a bunch of folks and not give them a training date so that when the furlough happens they can save money on the moving and the training cost! Furlough in place! That's the only reason the carried an excess in each seat! I think that this volcano burping is a blessing to all of us in the bottom 300! I hope it keeps burping till the end of time! Just so that they can see how overstaffed we actually are.
Buck as for your question! I think they are going to furlough 150 1 Sep, even though they don't need too. Its to prove a point that's all. As someone more eloquently said before just so they can prove to the inmates who's in charge!
I can pick up a whole bunch of open time this bid period and financially I really need too but instead I am going to let the phone keep ringing from the debt collectors and enjoy my 38 days off in a row, starting today! It's sad that you take a guy that wants to help, who is a team player and turn him into a disgruntled employee for the next 27 years! Good work UPS! Way to team build and build cooperation!
