Actually,

The last guy hired prior to the purple nuggests (I hate that name) had already completed his training in the back of the B727 prior to being awarded MD-11 ANC FO on the MOB (junior ANC FO on the MOB w/ a 7/9/07 class date). The real issue for him, is that there will be no one junior to him on the 727 for awhile, so bidding his monthly sked with his relative seniority and no REAL increase in pay with passover pay until Jan/Feb is gonna suck.

Well, I agree. Being on the bottom always sucks, no matter what seat you're in, especially when the hiring stops for a while. Your example SO gets a slight increase in pay as soon as a nugget checks out. He'll get passover of $53 an hour once he's off probation (about 6 months worth.) And since we will still have 90 or so Boeings and will have to hire SOs to replace all the guys going to right seats, he'll probably be bidding 50% by the time he goes to training.

Actually, I'm not sure we're arguing, just throwing facts back and forth. The company has offered SFS FO slots to new-hires before (as far back as 98, to my personal knowledge,) and no one got too upset about that. There are even two of those in the nugget group. The only way a 72 SO really loses out, is if he didn't bid up on the MOB. But that's the nature of the game. Bid up for money or stay where you are for seat seniority and QOL.

Well, I'm talking of THE junior guy, he gets neither money - till Jan, nor seniority/QOL until he has a few SOs behind him, whenever that is! Otherwise, we're on the same page!

With any luck, the ANC slots will be filled with the next new hire class, and then newbie 72 SOs will start showing up again Just my opinion, but the only thing he is missing out on is a window, as bottom of the list in ANC isn't any better (or on probation, higher paying except intl ovrd) than bottom of the list in MEM. There are so many SOs that the bottom 75 guys are on reserve, and the reserves are hardly working.

Oh, he is, but he'd be happier if he had some guys behind him, relatively speaking!

No doubt about it. It should happen pretty quickly now that we have the MD shortages in ANC pretty much taken care of. Going to start a new hire class at the end of the month in the back seat. Had a buddy just get called the other day for the 31st. Not sure how many in the class but the last guy now won't be the last guy for long...

Default Pleasant surprise

Since I started this one I thought I would close the loop on it.

My S/O friend emailed me yesterday. Apparently passover pay started on time for the guys that got their training pushed back, and with no prodding required.

How can that be? The senior pilot's passover pay doesn't activate until he/himself activates, and to my knowledge there hasn't been anyone (except purple nuggets) go to school and activate who would trigger passover.

I've been waiting 5 months as a MEM guy to go to school and am the 1st one to go in Sept. May 21 was the cutoff date for non-nugget md11 training and all the ANC guys are still waiting, thus not eligible for passover yet. I'll be really interested in knowing how your SO friend is getting passover pay.

By the way, this whole nugget process blows.
