MEM HTL STBYS at HOME ???

Maybe "O" can fix the R-3 callout that I have never seen although its in the contract. Would sure help me moving out to the country where I belong.

What??? If I am assisgned a hotel standby period and I can get to the hub in 30 minutes or less and I accept the responsibility, how the h3ll is O helping me out by making me stand it from home. I've never missed a call out while doing this. Why should I get lumped into the same pile as the guy who did? And how is it undermining the contract if I ask CRS to stand it from home and they agree. Once again we are our own worst enemies..... You ever heard of the " Crab syndrome?" If you throw a bunch of cabs in a pot to boil, if they see one of their buds getting out of the pot they'll actually grab him and drag him back in with the rest. Hello fellow crabs.......

I know you're kidding about the above first statement, because can you imagine the liability the company would heap on itself, because if you're sitting on "hotel standby" at home, it would be an "on duty" assignment, and therefore you'd be on the clock, which would mean that if you got into an accident driving in to work (after being called at O'dark thirty) the company would have to be held liable. I don't think that that's ever going to be the norm. I can envision the company asking a pilot, who wants to sit Hotel Standby at home, to sign a legal document, accepting all responsibility for anything going wrong between their home and the AOC.
Of course, I was a commuter, and therefore feel very strongly that guys should not be allowed to sit standby at home. After all, if I can't do it, why should they? However, if I lived in domicile, I'd feel very strongly that I should be allowed to sit standby at home. Go figure.

I think one thing missing from this discussion is where did these hotel standby periods come from in the first place? I know someone mentioned ANC and Mt. Redoubt, but wasn't there a big todo about hotel standby periods being assigned to R-24 holders? I'm too junior to hold R-24, so I don't know. Is that still going on?

A Little perspective here, 5 years ago, R-24s were getting called out for MEM STHOTL from R-24 (I may have been one of them) and we were not permitted to stay at home. I had a crashpad closer than the hotel (Doubletree Poplar) and was told I could not stay at my crashpad. I asked if I could take my personal vehicle to the hotel and drive in to AOC if called in, they said no.
IMHO, if you get a STHOTL in MEM, enjoy it. Do the movie star thing and have the family stay with you. I think we should enjoy the benefits the CBA affords us...

I was always on R24 when I got the standby.

I'm not sure how many guys are sitting hotel STBY right now, but typically, I've been given that assignment when scheduling was anticipating contingencies. An ice storm that was forecast for Memphis, severe storms forecast to move through or during those times when the loads might require extra flights, such as Peak, Valentine's or Mother's Day.
I was always on R24 when I got the standby.

24 hr notice then becomes a 1 hour scramble.
So much for the intent. Yet another grab on our contract.
