Actually the newest HOT rumor on the SS side of the house is a massive layoff of managers. There are already high level talks to, instead of perhaps losing managers to IPA in a public court food fight they will simply remove them from the table by laying them off to take away that hammer from a new administration that is going after them. Plus it gives the air group bragging rights in ATL about cutting unit costs since the excess IPA pilots can easily pick up the slack, and they also have additional reserves if needed as they can cancel future RDG. And the junior guys having dodged the bullet will be grateful to have a job (and no more reduced pay since RDG will be cancelled-returned to full pay) they will have far better attitudes than the MRB writing/higher cost drones that will soon hit the street. PLUS the remaining magazine straighteners will cower for their lives!

SB- I've heard something very close to that from two different sources. There have been some interesting Management movements recently, and the rumor is S Davis's right hand man is appalled by the number of Managers vs. Pilots. The training "float" is not even close to done, and there's strong speculation is a 777 announcement coming in the near future. UPS will wring as much as they can from the IPA, then come up with an agreement that makes everyone look good. If I were a Manager, I'd be VERY nervous...

Save the managers! (At least the ones that the IPAers really like)
That said, managers knew when they signed on here at UPS that they had (a) no seniority rights and (b) no union to protect their jobs if the going ever got rough.

Maybe it is the other way around Lil J. Maybe by getting rid of the managers combined with MOU savings reduces costs that ATL is looking for. Instead of getting rid of IPA pilots that directly make the company money, get rid of "management" overhead as a better way to achieve savings while maintaining flexibility regarding pilot staffing levels. The company did announce an overall reduction of 1800 management types throughout the system. It is possible they accept the MOU and get rid of Manglers.

In the meantime they can get IMMEDIATE savings from firing manglers now, and scare the remaining into good dogs that would actively fight any attempts to bring them onto our list. Then hire select ones back (at cheaper deals) after the current economy improves...or better yet, make them work the sort to learn how real UPSr's really work.

UPS Pays Ca$h for all of its jets.....
I don't think so anymore....
Rumor has it that our "new" 767's are all financed. It's a new era with Davis at the helm.
I hope he cuts our FQM's and we staple 'em to the bottom of our list out of "good will".
I see this as a win for Davis and wall street. Get rid of the managers and keep the MOU savings.... Maybe we could get the subordinate officials to pony up some of their year end "factor" to help save some jobs.
Striker.
