UPS Furlough
#591
Brownie,
I think your point is well-taken, because in the next two years "stuff" is set to happen. By all means, I can totally see your point.
However, keeping true to the thread's original subject, the next six months will see UPS furlough 170 pilots for the first time in their airline's history.
Certain questions come to mind in the next six months:
Will the company be able to MEF after Sunday.
With the increased flying that appears to be heading our way will safety, fatigue, and new people in new seats become an issue.
Will the company furlough according to the printed schedule.
Will reliability of our product suffer
Will the FAA amend our rest rules
Will the European crisis and strengthening dollar affect us.
Blah blah blah...in any event, I do admit to have been short-sighted, but I think the way UPS/IPA handle the first 170 furloughes will defining. Will the company blink first.
We have the same problem in front of us, just two different ways of interpreting it.
Regards,
FF

Good Luck to all the "Spartans"! Seems my number is up in June.
Remember to report all management flying. We'll see what happens Monday morning over this !@#$ when the IPA marches into court......
Furloughing Union Pilots and replacing with non-union workers!

Saw this quote on the B&G
"I just flew a military charter this week , and the load master told us that Rick Barr called the charter office last week and told them to cancel 6, 747 charters in June because we do not have the crews to fly them."
IF this is true... As disgusting, reprehensible, and outlandish as this furlough is... the fact that this unnecessary UPS furlough MAY (assuming other military charters cannot not be lined up at the last minute) be affecting the United States military effort overseas is beyond disgusting.
THIS needs to be confirmed, and if true be in the media.

I've been in a foul mood for a long time now but, when I read this it just about put me over the top! Who is running this place? Mickey Mouse? I pray it's not true.
My first leg of IOE at S T U P I D, the engineer, who had been at UPS for over 20 years, told me there were only two things I needed to know about UPS.
1. This company will make globs of money in spite of itself.
2. You can't spell stupid without UPS.
