Some of our most professional UPS line pilots that I have had the pleasure to work with still wear their uniform cap. Why? Because it is part of the professional image that we should all strive to support and because it is the standard. It is like anything else...The best pilots don't pick and chose the standards, they simply strive to meet all of them. Conversely, some of our "most help needed" pilots come to work looking like an un-made bed, without a hat, I might add. There is a link between competence and appearance in our business!
Yeah Sierra, I agree...it is of vital importance that we project a professional image at all times, and the pinnacle of that image is that snappy brown cap with the big emblem. I find that the cap makes a big impression on the folks sleeping on the benches and floors of Shenzhen Airport at 3am. The public is equally "gaga" over the hat in Mumbai, when it's 95 degrees and 100% humidity outside. I find that I fly a better approach when I wear the hat under my headset, and it provides that added warmth on my noggin when it's a chilly night in Köln.
Maybe your FQS buddy should have been wearing his hat in the sim the other day when the FAA was watching...you know, since there is a link between competence and appearance.

Maybe that FQS crew that took a direct through the AMU wasn't wearing their hats either.
Or maybe that special management type that torches 2 engines during start wasn't wearing a hat either.
Look UPSierra, that was a pretty stupid thing to say. People working in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
I'd be the first to admit that some IPA crews have stupid things too. It takes a management attitude like yours to come on here and proclaim that managers possess superior flying competence based upon their appearance ... seriously.

If you actually believe that stuff, I feel sorry for you. If you just like to drop verbal turds around a public forum ...

But you trust UPS!
Bwaaaaahahahahahahahahaha! That is some funny stuff right there! Maybe when UPS doesn't need you to do the dirty work of doing the furloughee's flying and your services are no longer needed, you can get a job as a stand up comic. That is some pretty funny stuff!

I do believe the party is just starting though. We'll see if you feel the same way later in the year. I can think of just a few things that will change your mind.

Funny you should mention the hat. At first I thought it was just a cheap shot, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized it is relevent to the topic of this thread.

So standards do matter to our reputation and does reflect on the quality of our work.
This last round involving your union's senior leadership and their either "miscalculation" or "misrepresentation" of the truth also demonstrates a lack of leadership standards. Either way, it does undermine the organization's integrity.
Please understand that for the majority of us in management, membership in this organization is not desired. We simply cannot trust the IPA with our careers. Thanks for inviting us to the party, but I think we will collectively pass on the offer.
