ups vacation
Guys...
I'm sensing some confusion about ups vacations here. We have days of vacation that don't equate to hours unless the company buys them back (6hrs/day) or it falls on days off (3hrs/day). This encourages us to bid our vacations over trips (for which we receive the full value of the trip dropped) instead of making extra money. We're hoping, in theory, that more people will conflict and cause more hiring. If we had 6hrs/day in both cases, a lot (most?) would try and bid vacation on days off for the bigger paycheck.

You have the same vacation as above but you have reserve days or trips that end on October 7 and then a trip or reserve days that starts on October 17. How is that handled/paid?
Here at FedEx we can move our vacation days 5 days in either direction with no limit on trips dropped. In case one above we would get paid for both trips and 180:00 would be deducted from th vacation bank. No limit on hours dropped butif you go negative it is deducted from next years vacation bank.
Case two above we can also move either way with no limit on hours dropped, and you can expand to drop trips up to six hours more than the value of the vacation period. This seven day vacation is worth 42 hours so you can expand to drop 48 hours if you have that remaining in your vacation bank.

vacation
Guys...
If you have a trip that is longer than your seven day block (in this instance) and it falls over your vacation, the entire trip is dropped. You can make up the difference (within 5 hrs) on your own or roll the dice and see if the company can backfill your available days when the trip doesn't touch your vacation. We don't have the ability to move our days (boy would I love that!) but the international guys have had fairly good success at gaming the system. Under the new contract, the company can dh or comml you back onto your trip on your available days. For the domestic guys, this really isn't a player (trips less than a week). So for the most part, one week of vacation can be turned into 3 and possible 4 weeks off in a row without too much problem (if you have the bidding seniority).
Ipaontop.org has some good information but was slanted towards showing why we should have voted no on the ta. It's really easy to cherry pick the good and bad and start thumping your chest about it. FF tends to cherry pick the bad things and highlights them. Your scheduling rules are overall better than ours (IMO) but we're getting closer. Our EDW (critical time for you?) gives us something close to your rules there. We were offered fedex scheduling if we took fedex scope. Not being a scope guru, I think we need scope more than you guys but only time will tell.

If the 10 day trip, (60hrs @6/day to make it simple) only touches 4 days of your vacation... Do you get paid 24hrs for the trip/vacation conflict days, plus 9 (3 hrs a day) for the vacation days that don't conflict? That's a total of 33 hrs in this instance.
