MD- not to be cheap or anything like that, but if the company gives me a piece of equipment that I have to use and update, they should provide me with all the equipment I need to keep it current.

AT, I'm with you on this one. If they make it a requirement then they should give you what you need to make it work.

MD, the first router you listed is the better of the two, make sure whatever you get is a "N" router these days, "g" is an old one.

In all seriousness, if you don't have one of these pocket routers, you should get one. Regardless of the company Ipad updates, its great to be able to turn your room into a WiFi hot spot. I use an Iphone and PC: this enables me to Skype/text through either my computer or cell phone, while wondering around the room, and many other advantages of not having my computer tied to the Ethernet cable.

The thing is only 2.5x3.5 inches. Takes up no space at all.

As for me I have been carrying a small router for years now so I will not have a problem but what if you don'.

Just saying.....
I don't want to carry anything more.

I read it as if I have done everything I can by updating before my trip and at hotels with WIFI, if an update is required and a hotel is without WIFI, I will turn on data roaming and update. Justified.

Tony-
I agree with the Asus.
I have the model that can also go Wifi to Wifi.
Good for the hotels that only give you one device on their WiFi.
Mac, iPad, iPhone all share one login.

What are you wondering about? How they make a router so small... how Skype works like magic?

So you set it up as an access point and it allows you to use multiple devices? Do you have to set up a VPN or does it just use your network settings and just shows the hotel one MAC address?

Sounds like a good idea, a lot of Garden inns and Holiday Inn Express' have better reception at different parts of the room.

The device can connect to one WiFi network, and create and share that access on a different WiFi network to multiple devices. The hotel sees all your devices as this one device, the same as if you had plugged it in to the ethernet cable in your room. Your devices have no clue, they just connect to this device's WiFi as usual.
If you see a 'trashhauler' wifi advertised in your hotel, come say hi.
Just need to change this devices profile to either WiFi/WiFi or Cable/WiFi as needed.
